I wasn't questioning if anyone cared what type of food it's called, nor was I saying it was bad food.

I'm just saying I wouldn't take a date there, either Mexico location, or even Fiesta. If I'm on a date, I'd prefer some time to talk to my date instead of food coming out within 10 min of us being there. I prefer good food. Just a personal choice.

You say right here that you prefer "good food". Your intent was clear in the first post.

Admittedly, I am a huge fan of LaTolteca, because I know the owners. We have always had great service, the food arrives HOT and well prepared, it's very good - we love the food there. WHEN we want Mexican.

IF two people like Mexican type food - it's a perfect place to go. It won't break the bank and I have never been unhappy with the service or the food. Neither has anyone I've ever taken there. When we go out alone, or with friends we all LIKE to eat and talk and visit and share. They don't ever push us out the door, either.

As always, your mileage may vary.

I won't argue it's a good place to go when you want cheap, fast, food. It's good enough, but I think it's bland. Their Facebook page has a picture of the cooks and it's a bunch of tubs of pre-made food in large batches. Just not my thing for a date, which this thread is about.

There 34oz beers and margaritas are always good, service is always excellent, and I've eaten there plenty of times without issue. If I came across as bashing the restaurant or owners, that wasn't my intent and I apologize.

I like Mexico in H-Town. But, you are right... It's all the same manufactured goop.

When I eat at a Mexican restaurant, I almost always have carnitas. Not goop.

But I do want to point out that most restaurants make whatever they can in large batches. I know you didn't think they peeled, boiled, and mashed each potato to order for your mashers. The sauces for pretty much any dish in any restaurant are pre-made (except for the rare restaurant that does a proper pan sauce). The reason your "vegetable medley" is almost always overcooked? Yep, pre-made. Italian? Always pre-made. Chinese? Of course it's pre-made.

And yes, they pre-make the carnitas as well. If they made them to order, you'd be sitting for 6-8 hours waiting for your dinner.

This is a real question (not necessarily for you, Hank): do you all think restaurants make all dishes to order with no prep or pre-making?

I went there last year. The food and service were horrible. I usually give second chances, but I just cannot bring myself to try that again.:barf:

Have never had bad food or service at Mexico, and have eaten there many times, must have been a really off night for them.

Chris, have you tried Umai sushi House in Deale?

Absolutely. A few times. The lady that runs that place is super sweet.

Not as many choices as Nagoya, but I find Nagoya has a lot of sushi that is "Americanized", if that makes sense. Always either shrimp tempura or spicy tuna as a base and eventually covered in multiple sauces. It's good, but Umai has more traditional, simple, sushi in a much smaller setting.
