On Thursday, an assistant professor at the University of Memphis published a scientific paper about the death of her cat. That seems within the bounds of normalcy, but this isn’t: the cat that died and the professor's other cat are listed as co-authors of the paper.

Susan Naomi Nordstrom, according to the university, specializes in qualitative research methodologies with the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Research. After the paper was published, an absolutely hilarious thread was posted on Twitter regarding the paper. There is no way to outdo the hilarity of the Twitter author’s thread; it is reprinted below:

The American Pet Products Association estimates $60.59 billion will be spent on pets in 2015, up about 25 percent from five years ago. More U.S. households own dogs than any other pet. They tend to be the most expensive domestic animal. Basic annual expenses per dog are expected to reach $1,641.

She isn't the only one nuts about their pets.

Now that I've read it, that "professor" needs to be drug tested. She was clearly on an acid trip when she wrote that mess.

Okay, but there's nuts and then there's *nuts*. And this is what passes for higher education these days.

Exactly, this sort of Hyper-navel-gazing is just off the charts. I love my pets, but how much money and time was devoted to detailing her relationship with her cats? Why does an education cost too much?
