Progressive Insurance

I just got my renewal notice for the bike. On the last page of all the BS, there was a comment, "didn't get the best rate", and further down the reason, "No history of a car loan".

Didn't that get discussed here once before, and someone pointed out that using credit history for determining renewal rates was illegal in MD?

That really stinks. I checked progressive for my bike and for what ever reason they were alot higher than I thoought they would be,didn't give me a reason.

So what is their thinking? That perhaps you don't own a car and ride the bike all the time?

I guess it's credit history/ability to pay back loans, etc... I haven't had a car loan since 1980. It was either on the ex's loan account or I used a personal loan from the credit union. Better rates. I guess that doesn't count.

Thanx. I'm going to forward that info to Progressive.
Let me know what they say GW. I called them out on this and I was not happy with their response. She said I didn't have a car payment for them to use as a credit reference so I didn't get the best rate. I said: you're penalizing me for having good credit and paying cash for my stuff? She said: "in essence, yes". I then asked her what the difference in my rate would be if I did and she said: $10 less. I told her that I want to talk to someone who sets the rates and makes up this BS because I had no tickets or accidents and should get the best rate available. She said: "sir, your annual premium (for the Harley) is only $89 per year". I kind of let it go after that but it still bothered me.
This is just like the mortgage game. Since I've worked hard to pay off my house, I don't get any bonus from the Obamination for using my money wisely.
