Proposed Maryland Legislation 2025

TPD

the poor dad
Wow - some crazy crap being proposed in Annapolis. Getting close to the end. This caught my eye:

House Bill 504 - Excellence in Maryland Public Schools Act

This bill removes several former certification requirements for teachers, including:

  • Passing subject-specific examinations
  • Passing a basic literacy skills test
  • Holding a degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Meeting a minimum GPA of 3.0, among others
If you can't find enough qualified teachers, lower the standards! This bill has passed the house (100-39) and is now in the senate.

LightRoasted

If I may ...
For your consideration ...

Now imagine paying your property tax bills in the thousands yearly to pay these stupid illiterate 'teachers' $60,000+++ in addition to super generous benefit packages whilst you labor away daily only to come home to your dumbed-down children that seem to only know the difference in pronoun meanings.

This state is so fu*ked.

Start HOME SCHOOLING YOUR CHILDREN PEOPLE!!! It will not be getting any better.

And now dumbing down "education" to add to the list. When I taught Calculus in 1980 I had a 100% that understood it and passed it. Now, who knows.

not having a Passing a basic literacy skills test isn't a bad thing. They then qualify to be mayor of Philadelphia.

It was intended for education use, until they saw how much then visions of fairy tale programs came true with it.
The general assembly just directed that revenue to the money going to the schools. It didn't increase what the schools got. It was used to pay what the General Assembly decided they would get. Similar to United Way - if you designate a particular charity for your donation, they use it to fulfill the amount that was pre-determined to go to that group. It doesn't increase how much your charity gets.
