...the Wal-Marts,Giants,Citi Banks,C&S wholsale Distributors....etc,companies with sales in the BILLIONS.

Right. So what does 'go after' mean? And why just them?...the thousands of smaller corporations total up higher aggregate sales numbers - and have more total employees.

http://www.api.org/statistics/fueltaxes/upload/Gasoline_Diesel_summary.pdf

PDF on state gas taxes.
If the Maryland hike goes through we will move from the 29th position to the 10th position for fuel taxes.

right now Virginia tax on a gallon of diesel is 17.5, maryland will go to 34.7 I think, I will go out of state to not pay Maryland that extra amount. And like I said, with a 100 gallon bed tank for the truck, I can go down and fill the truck tank, 40 gallons, and the 100 gallons in the bed tank and end up having enough fuel to refil both my truck and my wifes car for two to three weeks.

Thoise disgusting greedy grocery chains! There outa be a law..a special tax on their windfall profits. Corporate greed epitomized.

One of the lowest margin businesses on the face of the planet too...lowever than health insurance companies, even.

Average after tax profits for all chains combined: hovers around 1.25% year to year.

not much room for them to absorb pay or tax increases is there.

cant be arrested for smuggling fuel from one state to the next unless I plan to resell it. as long as Im filling approved tanks Im in the clear. Now if I drive over and fill my tank, then come back and transfer it to a bigger tank in my yard and do this a few times, I might be in violation of some law. Other than that there is nothing the state can do about me filling up in Virginia before I come back into Maryland.

And Im not turning anyone in for stealing food, so Gilligan is safe if I am the one that sees him.

You said 100 gallons. That's not personal use. Intent to distribute, tell it to the Judge.

100 gallons is personal use.
Since I tow a modest camper with the truck its reasonable to assume that I might be able to blow through a hundred gallons pretty quick. (and I do)

Save your arguement for the Judge. The SS is paid to arrest you not reason with you. They do there job well.

When the stores do away with the Cashier, I will go to one that has a Cashier. Free Enterprise works.

I like the self checkout for smaller orders, I leave the cashiers for the people who have large orders (and need help bagging).
OP is full of torro poopoo, automation isn't cheap, the only reason to do it is to keep costs down, in order to keep prices down. I'd say the market is one place people really watch their pennies, they aren't just going to pocket bigger profits at the risk of losing customers to lower prices elsewhere.

When the alien robots take over the maintenance and repair of their fleet of vehicles, please let me know. Thanks.

Yep showing my age even more so, remember full service gas stations. Remember in High school in 1968 working at a gas station for several years part time , in winter and summereven learned a lot about working on the cars back then, a lot of gas stations also did mechanical work and tires and batteries. Many of my high school friends worked there and at other gas stations, all those jobs are now gone also. Remember gas was outrageously high 34 cents a gallon, owner way overpaid us also, minimum wage a whole $1.60 per hour. I personally love $3.64 a gallon gas, pump your own, no jobs at all for kids these days other than fast food crap. But it is called progress.

I'll use self service checkouts when I'm in a hurry if they have no lines. But it's always in the back of my mind that there's one person working for 4 checkouts. That's 3 people who've had their hours cut or their jobs eliminated. And that roboclerk is annoying. Invariably, when I get behind someone in self-checkout, they're the person who has all kinds of problems with technology or they've got 3 or 4 things that need "over-rides".

I hope I'm impeding progress, at least alittle by using live checkers. I can't find a freaking clerk in Macy's, I have to wander for aisles and aisles in Target to ask if they carry something, and it's getting to be the same way in Safeway and Giant, I fear that soon it'll be me and the other shoppers and a security guy at the door - and no one whose job it is to provide any kind of customer service.

That's It! Finally someone figured it out! :yahoo: Don't forget, customer service is a service and it does cost a few pennies more.

P.S. Pick up a hundred cartons of cigarettes too. As long as you're there.

now see, you need to check the laws.
As a resident I can only legally enter the state with 2 packs of non-maryland taxed cigarettes. Non residents (must be passing through) can have up to two cartons of non-Maryland taxed cigarettes.

I as a resident do not have to register fuel carried across the state line until it hits the 500 gallon amount. So legally I could put a 499 gallon tank in the bed of the truck and be ok.

My F-450 holds a 100 gallons...built that way...new. Quiz: How much does a typical road tractor hold?:coffee:

If you are talking about a tractor as in tractor trailer, most of them hold a minimum of 200 gallons.

My truck came with a 40 gallon tank. the extra 100 would be nice on long trips. Wife would never get to stop and pee.
