She's a very special young lady and I'm so proud she's my niece.

Congrats 
I was chatting with my sister last night and got an update. My niece is 4th chair in the concert band and a section leader. This is totally UNHEARD of for someone who is NOT a music major (she's an English major - imagine that! 
). WTG girl! 
She'll be trying out for the University Band next week (they have 30 different ensembles at the college) and I'm sure she'll be a shoo-in. Sis also related a story about the director asking my niece who her private instructor is. She just looked at him and laughed. Other than an hour with one, she's NEVER had a private lesson in her life. She did it all on her own and through her high school bands.

Thank you and everyone else for the congrats. She is just an awesome young lady and ONLY a freshman. Sis and I say she takes after our side of the family, NOT her father's. I have a couple of pictures my sis sent me of their performance at Raven Stadium that I'll try to post tonight.

That HAS to be a rush performing in such a huge, open place in front of so many people!!
I'm sure it is, especially for a small town girl like my niece. I remember going to marching band competitions in high school and performing at Cole Field at the University of Maryland, but nothing like this. She's remarkably poised for such a young girl.
