I was chatting with my sister last night and got an update. My niece is 4th chair in the concert band and a section leader. This is totally UNHEARD of for someone who is NOT a music major (she's an English major - imagine that! ). WTG girl!

She'll be trying out for the University Band next week (they have 30 different ensembles at the college) and I'm sure she'll be a shoo-in. Sis also related a story about the director asking my niece who her private instructor is. She just looked at him and laughed. Other than an hour with one, she's NEVER had a private lesson in her life. She did it all on her own and through her high school bands. :yay:

 Thank you and everyone else for the congrats. She is just an awesome young lady and ONLY a freshman. Sis and I say she takes after our side of the family, NOT her father's.

I have a couple of pictures my sis sent me of their performance at Raven Stadium that I'll try to post tonight.

Looking forward to her "Band Camp" stories
:bonk:

:lalala: Auntie Jazz does NOT want to hear them, TYVM.

I'm sure it is, especially for a small town girl like my niece. I remember going to marching band competitions in high school and performing at Cole Field at the University of Maryland, but nothing like this. She's remarkably poised for such a young girl. :yay:

My niece made the marching band for the University of Maryland. My sister and brother-in-law traveled to the game between them and Navy at Ravens Stadium, yesterday which Maryland won in the last few minutes of the game 23-20. It was her first half time show and according to sis they did wonderful. :yay:

She's trying out of the concert band next week, so keep your fingers crossed! She is a very talented musician and plays several instruments including the steel drums, but in the band she plays trumpet. I am so proud of her.

I did not read through the thread, but did want to say :yay: CONGRATS! :high5: and WOW!!!!

THAT takes work and dedication. Good job to her!
