PSA: 5th District Park

5th District fields (all fields behind Lettie Marshall Dent) are FULL of yellow jackets. Children and adults are getting stung there daily.

If you have a kids that practice football or cheerleading there- Please be cautious! Also, if your child is allergic be sure to have an Epi-pen readily available and be sure the Coach is aware of their allergy.

Maybe call Park and Rec.Get them to take care of the problem,or close the park.

It is my understanding that a call has been placed to the county and that Parks and Recs is aware. Hopefully they will be addressing the issue.

Boy are they aggresive when protecting their "home". My daughter and grandson were swarmed by them while she was cutting the grass. Each one of them got about 15 stings each. Pretty scary at the time, he's just a toddler.

Recreation and Parks and an exterminator have addressed the problem with bees at 5th District Park in Charlotte Hall. The Department would like to thank concerned citizens that were able to pinpoint the areas of concern. The home nest has been destroyed; however, the bees not in the nest will continue to remain in the area for a few days. Please do not use the marked areas (yellow paint) for several days.

R&P thanks citizens for patience with this matter while the nests were being located. As usual, if problems like this arise do not hesitate to call the R&P Main Office at 301-475-4200 ext. 1800 or the Parks Maintenance Office at 301-863-8400.
