So, on the new level of pain, which way was harder? Do you have a preference? And one last naive question, how many c-sections can one have? I have a friend who had 2 and now she can't have anymore children. I never pressed her on the issue, but I assumed it was because of the 2 previous c-sections.

I never delivered naturally, so I cannot compare. The first c-sec was a breeze, quick recovery but my employer's benefits paid for 2 extra weeks, which I milked for all it's worth. When I had the second the dr. said he couldn't find the scar from the 1st (they normally cut in the same place to minimize scarring) and recovery was only slightly longer.

The third time, (different doctor) he found both scars plus lots of internal scar tissue, which he cut out, then sewed what was left back together. This resulted in a great deal of extra pain and extra recovery time.

Internally, I'm still intact and could have another if I wanted to. As long as there is no infection or other complications, I don't think there is any limit to the number of c-sections you can have. I'm sure your friend had some complications either caused by the c-section or (more likely) the complications lead to the c-sections in the first place.

You don't want to opt for a c-section if you can avoid it because infections can happen easier than normal and if you do want a bunch of kids, or want to keep your options open, it's harder on your body to be cut into all the time. BUT if circumstances point you that direction, don't be afraid of a c-section either. It's pain is in a different place, but from all reports, it's not worse and can be less painful than a prolonged labor. It doesn't make you any less of a mommy either.

What's it 2 U
I went natural birth - no meds at all - with both my girls. I was in labor maybe 6 hours max with both and pushed for less than 15 minutes. In fact I didn't even know I was in labor with my first until I was 5 cm and I told my mother I kept having these little cramping feelings and they are irratating me. I thought they were the braxton contractions. She begged me to go to the hospital just to get checked and low and behold they rushed me into the hospital. I had her a few hours later. My sister had an epidoral with her first and was in labor for over 18 hours. I felt like it slowed her labor down. With her second she had a c-section and even though she was fine to go home fairly quickly she said she didn't really feel 100% again for a year or so.
