Does any one know any one with puppies that are under 300 dollars? I want one for my son's birthday(he loves dogs). We have looked at shelters, but aren't having much luck. It must be friendly and not be a pit bull or boxer or a very small dog.:cheesy::shrug:

SMAWL adopts out fully vetted dogs for $150. Really good price considering all the things it covers; vaccinations, spaying/neutering, health tests...

I'm sure they have puppies every now and then, it would certainly be worth checking out. They're a wonderful organization with very nice people to work with. There are also other similar organizations you can find on Petfinder.com. SMAWL's website is smawl.org.

Best of luck, and happy birthday to the boy!

Oh, SMAWL is local to St. Mary's, but they do have people that volunteer over in Charles. They have pet adoption events at the local Petco every other Saturday I believe, you can check the calendar on this website to see which weekend they will be there.

What is meant by this...I believe is that it cost money to properly take care of a puppy/dog.....

I think she means it's going to cost a lot in the long run, especially the vet part. In which case I suggest pet insurance, which is surprisingly affordable and very helpful in case something awful were to happen (broken bone, rather ill, swallowed something they weren't supposed to and it won't pass...).

I use gopetplan.com. $200 / year for both cats. They have varying prices for varying coverage, but the one I got is pretty good and I was very happy with the coverage. Definitely worth checking out.

Our last 2 puppies came from the shelter in Waldorf. They were the best dogs we've ever had. Both had great "personality" and very easy to train. It is often hard to find a puppy there - best to go fill out an application and get approved first - that way when a puppy you like comes in, you'll be instantly eligible for the adoption. We got our last pup in 2005 and it was an $85 fee - it pays for the "fixing".

It beats the $400 we paid for a "puppy-mill" cocker spaniel years ago before we knew what puppy mille were.

Happy hunting!

My friends dog is having puppies as we speak. 7 out so far...3 more to go. Golden Retriever, Shepherd Mixes. PM me if you are interested. It would be 8 weeks before they are ready to go. Not sure if she is charging for them.

Do you know the name of the shelter?

What do you consider a puppy? (age wise) and what exactly are you looking for?

There are MANY threads in this dog forum of dogs and pups needing to be adopted!

Here is a female mastiff mix under a year old looking to be adopted with Second Hope Rescue. She is not a Pit, Boxer, or a small dog..

so how old is your son? if you don't mind me asking. It does make a difference as to the type of dog you should get.

Would like to know how much one would be and to see pictures of them. Could you email me a picture?
