How the heck do you get a puppy to quit picking up the wood for the woodstove and shredding it all over the house and also she has a fetish for magazines and newspaper too. Can someone tell me something that works to not get them to eat those 3 things as I am sick of cleaning up atleast 4 to 5 messes a day?

Make sure she has plenty of dog toys, and move the other stuff out of her reach or monitor her when she's near them.

Well it goes on while I am home. She goes in her crate if we have to leave her. I was sitting in the kitchen eating lunch and I hear rip rip rip. I was like geez another mess then I go use the ladies room and come out and she picked up a piece of wood (big piece she could carry in her mouth) and took it over to the carpet and layed down and was pulling it apart. I keep telling mom and stepdad we need to find another home for the magazines and newspapers.

I have some magazines and assorted papers for her. Just kidding!

Move the items out of puppy's reach.

This is one big pup. Keeping her from the rooms where the firewood/magazines/newspaper are stored would probably be the only way...other than:

Crate is a great idea. :yay:

we do crate her when we aren't home. She is out when we are home though with us. Yes she is a big dog (st bernard) already weighs over 80lbs and can pull me if she really wants to as she is a strong dog.

How old is your puppy? My dog turned 1 in July and I've noticed a big decrease in her "curiosity" for all things she's not suppose to have. Besides getting all the "temptations" out of her sight, it might just be a waiting game. Depending on how you discipline the dog, it might see your reaction as a game. Oh look, I shred this up and she comes and makes a fuss over me so I'll do it again. Bad or good, attention is still attention. Just like a kid.

jp, what do you do when you find her chewing on something she's not supposed to?

I get mad at her and try to get whatever she has away from her but she thinks everything with me is a damn game.

Bruno is a 10month old St Bernard she turns 11months old on the 17th. The vet said she will be in teh puppy stages of life til she is 2. I don't know if I can deal with her doing this bad behavior til then so I am hoping I can start and break her of bad habits.

Well, for my Malamute (105lbs), it was like a switch was turned on in her brain once she turned 1. She stopped alot of her bad behavior and calmed down quite a bit. I'm not saying that she won't grab something on occasion if it's left out, but she will atleast bring it to me to say "see, look what I have" before she tries to tear it up.

Is she fixed yet? Sometimes that helps.

You should have been telling her "NO" from day 1.

yes she was fixed at 3 months of age. We have been telling her no since she was 2 months old. She thinks everything is a game with me as she thinks I am one of her playmates which isn't a good thing as she doesn't listen to me one bit.

Give her to me for 2 months. I assure you, when you get her back....she will listen.
YOU have to be the alpha dog. YOU are the boss, and it's time she understand the rules.
