Pups don't want to go for walks anymore

My German Shepperd (7) and Beagle (8) don't want to go for walks anymore. They used to love to go to Cedarville State Forest and run or mountain bike with me. I drive all the way out there, they nose around a bit then want to go right back in the truck. I know one cause of problem is the skeet range that is near by. If there is one shot fired I'd get pulled all the way back to the truck. I try to calm them or make them heal but it's pretty hard to control a 42lb beagle and 74lb shepherd at full pull on dirt paths.

After a few days I could get them back out there and go for a 5 mile walk but not anymore regardless if the skeet range is open. Now, this has become a problem at home too. I try to go for a walk around the neighborhood and they won't leave the driveway and pull to go back in the house.

I've tried treats and praise to lead them, no go. I'm at a loss, feel bad for them, and realy miss our long walks. Any suggestions?

That wasn't intended to be a smart ass reply.
Dogs are pack animals and will follow their leader.

Be the master or be the toy they tow around

got ya- sorry. I know I'm a big push over with them. I have tried the heal, which they are both trained and being firm with them. It's more like they are scared to leave the house or my truck.

Talk to the trainers at pet smart, Kathy trained 2 of my dogs and the other 2 men there are excellent with dogs also.

Do you think the hotter weather affects them? They're getting older in age and might not be able to tolerate the heat conditions for long periods of time.

Oh, that's a good point. What about playing with them and a tennis ball in a baby pool?

In addition to that, do you think they could be getting arthritic and/or have joint or hip pain?

My beagle is has a siezure disorder since a puppy. His meds don't help in his weight according to his doc. He doesn't get unhealthy treats and even then he don't get many. He's just a food monster, he find a chicken bone burried 3' down! I have to watch over him like a security guard when they eat, because he'll try to eat the shepherds food.

They both enjoy the outdoors, have large fenced backyard with large custom dog house with windows and carpeting from Air Force One in it built on a deck overlooking thier kiddy pool. Also, have a doogie door to the house. Yes, they are spoiled.

I heard you can e-mail Cesar Millan staff at his web site, I might try that for sugestions.
