Anyone out there very knowledgeable about Metrocast and their QAM channels?

How often do they move around?

Not that much. Just once in the recent past that I can remember. That was when they added the analog stations to the digital frequencies. The latest channel changes didn't impact the digital frequencies. They moved the analog channels around, but the digital channels (QAM) stayed the same, they just remapped them in the set-top boxes.

It was just changed yesterday. They took off all the Cinemax channels too :(

That figures. It's been pretty stable for a while, and I've been pretty happy. Just curious, are you using a QAM tuner in a tv or a pc-card?

I don't mind losing the Cinemax channels, but I just noticed that we've also lost at least USA, SciFi and Bravo from unencrypted digital channels. That really sucks. I don't want to have to go back to watching those on analog again.

Does anyone familiar with the inner workings of MetroCast know if that is a permanent change, and if they'll be encrypting more of the basic digital channels? I'd really like to know since I have my HTPC recording the basic digital channels, as the quality is alot better.

Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Looks like they are encrypting all of the basic digital channels (that have an equivalent analog channel), so now my digital TV won't tune any digital stations, except for the local channels.

Is this really the way that MetroCast is going? I can see encrypting the premium digital stations, and even the stations that are digital only, but encrypting the digital stations that have an equivalent analog stations doesn't seem like it's worth it.

I'd upgrade to the digital package, but I don't think I'll be able to record the digital streams with my HTPC.

If anyone has any insight into this, I'd like to hear it.

Thanks

Local channels with metrocast

I use Metrocast for internet only but noticed when I split the CATV feed that there were QAM digital channels in the CH 80's area that came in. My question is why can't I get the DC locals???? Most important for me are the SD feeds from WJLA CH 7 (MeTV) and WDCW CH 50 (Antenna TV). According to the Metrocast website they should be on QAM Channel 102.8 and 102.6 respectively. Are they getting filtered out? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My TVs occasionally drop one or more QAMs, a quick channel scan brings them right back in.

I'm getting 102.6(AntTV) and 102.8(MeTV). The old Metrocast QAM list I have, maybe out of date, has a couple of errors. NatGeo is actually at 88.14 and CSNPlus is at 89.11. The DTA has an iDisco channel I can't find in QAM. A duplicate AntTV is also at 126.4.

My TV would not direct access the recently added channels until I did a rescan. I'd forgotten it had that undesirable "feature".
