I just disagreed with THEIR (I didn't single Elaine out, she did) opinions about not having their pictures online, and within three posts the name calling started.. let me see.. I'm an "Azzwipe" I'm a "prick".. what other names can i dig up..

I wasn't picking on anybody! Not ONE of my posts singles anybody out... I just can't figure out how they can turn an event into an "all about me".

and as far as being unphotogenic, or "don't take a good picture"

CAMERAS are incapble of lying!!

besides, being an azz is one of the few things I'm good at!!

No, you didn't single anyone out. You're sweeping statement about whiners was directed at EVERYONE who didn't want their pics posted, and at that point it was the second time you called anyone who didn't want their pics posted whiners that think they're special.

Here's your shovel.

My Issue was, Rondevous was a SMALL place, would be difficult, unless they were coming out of the womans room, to capture a friend or friends, in a picture without also capturing a number of people in the background.. What a few were asking was for those that took pictures was to look through ALL of them and if they were in any of the frames to either be blotted out, or edited out. VERY time consuming, and just a plain pITA.. so now we can't share pictures of our friends without the fear of upsetting somebody because they're in the background somewhere and we didn't notice.. and now that one or two have made an issue of it, it's spreading like a virus.. what are we up to now.. 7 or 8 people that want to be edited out of EVERY picture??

now people are believing in the internet Boogeyman..

I like the SOMD bag idea.. next forum gathering bring some paper bags, and they can wear them anytime a camera is in the room..

Cameraperson has to shout out at leat 3seconds in advance!! PICTURE.. PICTURE.. PICTURE.. so everyone can get their bags on in time..

And what's wrong with saying "Everyone who would LIKE to be in the picture, stand here", instead of just assuming that you're snap happy ass can take anyone's pic without giving them an opportunity to get out of the line of fire?

Naaah.. I made a sweeping statement about everyone feeling special.. believing in the internet boogeyman.. and like the Australian Aborigines, they're souls being captured by the ungodly camera.. I called YOU a whiner...

Exactly. You were condescending and disrespectful of their wishes.

And that is my point. They are entitled to their opinion, and it should be you - a mature adult - to be able to honor their opinion. It doesn't mean that you need to agree with it, it just means that you need to not be a jerk when they simply state their opinion and you disagree with it. Besides, what makes YOUR opinion any more valuable that THEIR opinion?

I think in this case, you were rude and disrespectful. And I also believe that this thread has mushroomed into something quite ugly just because you failed to think about someone else's thoughts and wishes. Granted, there were nasty remarks made all around, but you incited most of it because - and I state it once again - you disregarded someone elses wishes.

And remember this: It is all about ME. No one else. Just ME. Once you commit that thought to memory, you'll be much better off.

But wait, there's more...
I guess I just don't see the big deal all around ... nothing personal to anyone who said they didn't want their pictures taken/posted/whatever ... If you don't want your boss seeing your picture online and knowing you're on here, then ya probably shouldn't be posting during work (not the photographer's problem). If you don't want your significant other/spouse knowing you post in an online forum, and you were actually at a bar vs. a library Friday night, that's your problem (not the photographer's problem).

Just kinda reminds me of a chic who wears a low-cut blouse and a mini-skirt, then slaps a guy who looks at her 'assets'. :ohwell:

Well, it was a public event..and advertised public event. It is normal for pictures to be taken a such events and most of the pictures taken at such events are of the spontaneous nature so as to capture the event in its true form.

The nature of this forum has become such that we feel somewhat comfortable with the "gang" that socializes together most of the time. For the most part, it feels like friends. Drinks are flowing, people are having a good time and their guard is let down. So there is not much of a concern when photos are taken until after the fact, when people begin thinking of the ramifications of what just might happen to these photos.

I see both sides of the issue and I think all parties have valid points. However, I do feel it's sad that an event for such a worthy cause and where everyone had such a fun time has digressed into yet again another somd pissing contest.

You know what would be fun? Get prints of the pictures, let's all go to Rondevous, party down and look at them! That way we can see the pics and nobody has to worry about becoming famous on the SomdSMIB site or some guy whacking off on you.

Who's always thinkin'? :tapsnoggin:

No thanks. It was obviously a mistake to go to this last one. This is one of the reasons I stopped going to forum functions.

No but it was the first one in my recollection where when someone said "I really don't want my pics posted, or if you have to blot me out" and they were called whinners or crybabies.

Actually, that's not true. Whenever a reporter or cameraman snaps a pic or footage that will be made public, they must have a release signed by the people in the picture. The only exception is when it's a crowd shot and nobody stands out as obviously recognizable. When we'd show up at clubs on a busy night to get footage for a commercial, we had EVERYONE sign a release. And there were always those who objected to being filmed and we would simply let them know we were filming and they'd move out of the shot.

You know when you're watching a cop show and some of the faces are blurred? Those people didn't sign the release.
