Question about raccoons

Has anyone ever heard of a raccoon coming out for food during the day if she is a new mother. I had a raccoon come in my garage and poke at my dogs while in their cages yesterday during the day. I called my neighbor who came down with a gun and ice pick, but the raccoon had walked away by the time he got there. then last night, I kept my garage door proped open and my dogs were going crazy, so my husband went out to see what the fuss was and a raccoon was in the cage with my dog, eating his food. my husband beat it with a peice of wood until it ran out. I called the "pound" and they said that sometimes a new momma raccoon will come out during the day while her "kids" are sleeping to retrieve food. I have never heard this before has anyone else?

I think inkpin has said this will happen. The mama's need to be out at all times to feed the babies. PM her. She is with wildlife rescue or something and knows a lot about that stuff.

I bowl overhand
I'd catch it and make it a pet.

Be some fun times once your dogs get used to it being around. MAYBE she;ll bring her babies by and you can sell them to all your neighbors as pets too!

:yeahthat: Had me a little concerned at first too, then I researched it, it's all fine and normal :huggy: I'd keep the dogs away though. Good luck with it all!!! Break a leg! :yay:
