Question about SMARTCO

I have been having allot of headaches trying to keep my scanner feeds up & online. The software set up that SOMD has in place for me to do this is very much limiting what I am able to do so I am looking into possibly picking up a few more computers that I can use to dedicate to the task.

I am thinking laptops. 4 of them. Preferably all almost identical. Only requirements would would a soundcard, 1 9 pin RS-232 port and a network card. As far as Chip and Ram I have not looked at all of the minimum requirements but I have done similar in the past with old PII 400 Chips with 32M Ram so obviously I don't need much horsepower.

I know SMARTCO will sell parts for computers cheap as I have picked up parts for Desktops. Will they sell old laptops? Prefereably with an Operating System?

If not does anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to get some older laptops as cheaply as possible?

Yes, they sell laptops.

If you explain the community service aspect, they may donate them to you or cut the price.

I am going in tonight to volunteer. 6-9.

Do you have any idea as to how much they would want apiece? If they were to charge the full price?

I may have to drive over there tomorrow and talk to them.

I'll likely call over today and talk to someone. I usualy don't like asking for free stuff but I have a hard time justifying buying a bunch of stuff for these scanner feeds when the only thing I do with a couple of them is feed the audio for others to listen to. I don't mind doing it but, on the flip side of the coin it's not something I think I am willing to sink allot of money into either.
