Question for Parents

How old normally are kids potty trained by? Saw a boy of 3 years old today still in diapers at the store. Not pull ups, plain old huggies. Is this normal, cause it seemed strange to me, but I don't have kids.

I started potty training my son at 2, and he started cooperating when he turned 3. All kids are different. I was potty trained at 2, but my youngest brother held out until he was 4. He's 11 now, and has no lasting effects of peeing on himself for four years. :lmao:

And you have to consider that maybe the mom slapped a diaper on the kid while she did some shopping (not all moms are diligent potty trainers), or maybe the kid looked older than it really was. When my little one was 2, people assumed he was 3...he's tall.

Early 3 is normal for boys. You can try to force them, but it is almost impossible. If it was late 3, the parents are just lazy, or there could be other issues such as developmental or physical problems.

Not necessarily. Some kids are stubborn to the point of insanity. My brother would not use the potty to save his life, and my mom tried EVERYTHING. He finally decided he was ready around the time he turned 4. And he's just a normal kid, no physical or mental issues.

True. My son will be 4 next month and he just decided he's ready, but he's been out of diapers for six months. However, using regular huggies sounds like laziness. They don't have any reason as to learn if they are comfortable, and it takes a lot of pee to fill one of those things up.

From what I understand, boys can take longer to potty train. But since I have a girl, I don't have a gauge.

My daughter was heart broken if she had an accident when she was two. My son is almost four and he didn't care until last month.

The most important thing is to make sure not to place undue pressure on theh child. Sometimes, overemphasizing the need to be potty trained can impose psychological damage that can last a child a lifetime.

I, for example, am still not completely potty-trained.

Perhaps it is peer pressure that his daycare buddies don't wet their pants.

I have girls, and they kinda let me know when they were ready. The younget was the hardest but she was good and potty trained by 3. I know some kids ( and come to think of mostly boys) whos parents are frantcially trying to get them potty trained before Pre-k at 4. My sis in law says my nephew was harder to potty train than my neice. And the sink the cheerios trick worked for her.

Potty training takes some time and patience. But it's really not that hard if the child is ready for it. Some just take longer than others.

That's because girls don't come with a gauge!

However, if you hold their mouth closed and blow in their nose REAL hard...
