Question for the atheist's.

The religions that you listed are all versions of Christianity, no doubt. Some of the Founding Fathers may have even followed them. But they were also Non-Christian denominations, nowhere is this more evident than in the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence.
And, of course, what they were or weren't is a meaningless argument. No where is this more evident than in the first portion of the First Amendment.........

First off I'm a Christian. But my question is, if you are an atheist WHY would you chose to visit this forum? We live in a county where the goverment doesn't force you to go to church so why do you have to argue withthose who chose to believe in God? Guess I'm just kind of Live and let Live.
I do a search for new posts and answer the ones that look interesting at the time. Sometimes I end up "in the kitchen", "the ladies room" and sometimes "religion". Now my question for you would be, is your faith so weak that having someone debating your religion scares you. I would think you would enjoy the chance to discuss it and possibly find new meanings.

The Declaration of Independence was important enought that they drafted it First! :pete:

Without carrying forward the Declaration of Independence we wouldnt have needed a Constitution. You could argue we wouldnt have a Constitution if it wasnt for the Declaration of Independence.
The Declaration is a great document, which holds no legal value whatsoever towards US laws.

Whether they were Satanists, Bokononists (see Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle), Christians, Diests, Muslims, or Wiccans is entirely meaningless to what the country is today - our first reiterated limitation to the federal government, as an amendment to the constitution (the legally binding document), is that religion is up to each individual what to practice, or not practice.

Many were Christians AND diests at different points in time. Many were both nice and mean. Many were both rich and poor at different times. Madison was pretty damned smart when he wrote the constitution, but thought the Bill of Rights was unnecessary because they didn't say anything new that wasn't already in the body of the constitution. Patrick Henry was one of the strongest voices FOR the Declaration, but fought hardily against the Constitution.

The only thing that matters about what these men were is the laws they've left us, the intelligence we ascribe to them through following those laws, and the freedoms we have due to their dilligence and sacrifice.

Have you noticed the Title Topic for this forum?

The title is given becasue they exist in the Religion section. I suspect if not-religious persons did not spend so much time arguing against religion the topic may not have been presented.

However it makes one wonder why atheists would spend time arguing with people about somthing they don't believe in anyway in a religion forum..

I just like to debate:coffee:

No you don't, you like to think you do, but you don't. What you do is start a topic, usually something so stupidly thought out that people want to jump on you with both feet, and then let someone who can actually argue a point intelligently carry on. Debating a point involves defending a position logically and consistently. What you do is offer an opinion, when your opinion is challenged you dive into a hole and wait for someone who can debate to come and make some sense of your post and then you pop back up to say "that's what I meant". You’re kind of like the runty kid who hangs around with the big kids, a lot of mouth and then hide behind your betters. Once they start making some points, you pop up with the “yeah that” and “aren’t they stupid for not agreeing with us.

We all are offering opinions...DUH Some are just more valid than others. Way to keep on topic BTW. Next time you have a snotty comment keep it and save my typing for actual discussion. :smack:

It seems like it okay to bash Christians for believing in God. The goverment doesn't force me to go to church so why all the bashing?
It would be like me we who loves a good steak standing in Borders and harrassing anyone who picked up a vegatarian cookbook.

But aren't you bashing Christian's for having a believe in God? I always believed that if you want to be happy...don't discuss religion or politics with family and friends.:buddies:

I wouldn't bother debate, except I like to sock it to people who start off by telling you how you're going to hell, but they aren't.

Imagine if you were walking down the street and someone started going on about how you'll be sent to the pit .... but the guy was being a total ass about it.

Welcome to this forum 80% of the time lol

IS I'm looking your way.

Toxic and others accuse me of this, but they really confuse pointing out Hypocrisy as "Bashing".

:poorbaby:

I take it all back.

You're the MOST tolerant person here. Everything you have ever said is the bastion of tolerance and virtue. Never have you ever bashed anyone for anything.

Ever.

Not only that, but everything you say is correct and good and true. Luckily you don't let it go to your head.

Him feel better now?
