What hurts is that breastfeeding makes your uterus contract. So you've got this kid latched on, and having cramps at the same time. Um, yeah. Ow.

Only bad Mommies bottle feed.

I agree if others that it can be a little uncomfortable at first but once you establish getting a good latch you should be fine. I only cracked with my first and I mostly pumped with her. With my second I do not remember ever and I rarely pumped.
As for weight I never lost it any quicker :ohwell:

I have only one child; she's now 23 and will have her own child in about a month. I breast fed her until she was just shy of 20 months. I gained about a hundred lbs with my pregnancy because of gestational diabetes, forced bed rest for pre-eclampsia, and gout. I was a mess. Within six months I'd lost all my excess weight and I credit breast feeding for helping that effort. I did exercise regularly but I did not have to diet. You do get a bit sore at first but with proper holding and latching you can mitigate that. I never used lanolin or anything like that, but letting your nipples air dry worked well for me.

:yeahthat: It is a personal choice.... either it's for you or it isn't... you have to do what you're comfortable with... but your uterus will get smaller quicker.

I had twins and breastfed for about 4 months. I didn't crack and it didn't hurt. It was time consuming and it felt like they were always hungry non stop. But I wouldn't trade those 4months for bottles. I don't think I lost the weight any faster. It came off.

I breast fed for 18 months, and didn't notice any weight loss. As was posted earlier, I don't think it helps in the weight loss aspect, but it does make the uterus contract, and go back in to shape. That wasn't painful for me. It's best to keep in mind, that breast milk is the very best for your baby. He, or she will spend the rest of their lives eating manufactured stuff. It's cheaper, and more convienant, without having to warm up bottles in the middle of the night. The first few days, you might feel like the baby isn't getting enough, but keep going. Don't let that, or any other negative thing get in your way. Keep Lanolin on hand, but keep in mind..that some people might be allergic to it. I rinsed my nipples off, and let them air-dry a couple of times a day. Then I lightly applied the lanolin.

I'm 28 weeks, and I've gained almost 10 pounds so far...as for ME...I'm not comfortable breast feeding either... I know it's supposed to be "motherly" but I cannot see myself back to work, in a courthouse...running around from room to room trying to find a place to pump...etc, etc.. Plus, I want my husband more involved and he can get up during the night for the feedings as well !!

Breastfed all three of mine. IMO, the breastfeeding itsself does not hurt. You have to make sure the baby latches on properly. Make sure you have some lanolin cream to keep your nipples moist so they don't dry out and crack, that hurts! If you go into it with a preconceived notion that it is going to hurt, I think you will set yourself up for failure by not being able to relax and assist the baby. They WILL feel your tention. Remember, nursing is work. You have to learn how to do it in order to teach your baby how to do it. You will be sleep deprived, frustrated, hungry, sore and on the roller coaster of emotions from your hormones. It will all be worth it when you look down at that precious life you've created and the special bonding time only you can give your child. I wouldn't change it one bit, it was all worth every minute!

I breastfed all four of mine. It really was nice not to have to get up in the middle of the night and go heat up a bottle. My family has a huge history of allergies, too, and breastfeeding is supposed to help with giving the kids some immunity to allergens.

I want to shoot you right now

I breastfed w/ 3 of mine. The first one was nearly 10 lbs when he was born so that lasted all of 3 or 4 days because he wanted to eat around the clock. My 4th one was smaller so I was able to breastfeed a little longer about a month. Then my 5th one the little princess only breastfeed for a month also.

You will be incredibly thirsty while breastfeeding so make sure that you always have water around. LOTS OF WATER! Also the hospital gave me these things called Soothies, OMG they are amazing for when your boobs get sore and cracked. Soothies® by Lansinoh® Gel Pads | Lansinoh
