Not that I agree with cancelling Dr. Suess, but I must have missed where WAP was accepted as part of a children's listening curriculum?
It is about what is socially acceptable not the medium it is presented by.

You do understand that society is capable of different levels of acceptance for different audiences? We don't let children watch porn or operate chainsaws either. Something can be "unacceptable" for children, and be fine for an adult.

Psaki's Revelation as to Who Actually Wrote Biden Proclamation Speaks Volumes

From NY Post:

“First, the proclamation was written by the Department of Education, and you can certainly speak to them about more specifics about the drafting of it,” Psaki began. [….]
“I think it is important that children of all backgrounds see themselves in the children’s books that they read, but I would point you to the Department of Education for any more details on the writing of the proclamation,” she continued. [….]
“And as we celebrate the love of reading and uplift diverse and representative authors, it’s especially important that we ensure all children can see themselves represented and celebrated in the books that they read,” Psaki added.

It’s a punt with an homage to diversity, not unlike her “we appointed a woman” response to questions that she’s pulled out to multiple questions.

But there’s a bigger problem in what she said. Notice how she tried to deflect any criticism of the proclamation leaving out Seuss by saying it was written by the Department of Education. But it was written in the first person and signed by Joseph R. Biden. So is she saying he’s not the one writing official proclamations with his name on them, written in the first person? Really. Tell us more about this. Now, yes, we get that he has speechwriters and such. But isn’t he responsible for things which he, in fact, signs? Or are you saying he has no idea/connection to the things he’s issuing or that have his name on them? Because that’s surely what she was implying in her response. That would be a big problem. Is that what you’re really saying, Jen Psaki? And do reporters really find that a satisfactory answer to that question?

Now It’s eBay: Website Reportedly Bans Sale Of Some Dr. Seuss Books

On Thursday, reports surfaced that eBay, the online auction and shopping website, had blocked the sale of certain Dr. Seuss books. One eBay lister received the following response:
We had to remove your listing because it didn’t follow our Offensive material policy. Listings that promote or glorify hatred, violence, or discrimination aren’t allowed.
What activity didn’t follow the policy[:]
Dr. Seuss Enterprises has stopped the publication of this book due to its negative portrayal of some ethnicities. As a courtesy, we have ended your item and refunded your selling fees, and as long as you do not relist the item, there will be no negative impact to your account. Please review our Offensive Materials Policy prohibits this item for more information.
What you need to do next.
You can’t relist items we’ve ended. Please ensure your current and future listings follow this policy.

This was no fluke. According to the Wall Street Journal, the offending books are all being delisted from eBay. “EBay is currently sweeping our marketplace to remove these items,” an eBay spokeswoman told the WSJ in an email.

While these Dr. Seuss books are deemed too offensive to be sold on eBay, you can still buy copies of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. At the time of this writing, “collectible” editions (people actually collect this book?) are listed as high as $500. Care to explain, eBay?

Imagine living in a world where Dr. Seuss’s books are deemed too offensive to be bought and sold, but Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf is not. But you don’t have to imagine it, because it’s happening here, in the Twilight Zone.

It likely won’t be long before third-party sellers won’t be able to sell used/collectible versions of the “canceled” Dr. Seuss books either—but copies of Mein Kampf can still be purchased, even on Kindle—Amazon’s propriety ebook format.

Cancelers Get eBay to Purge Dr. Seuss Books

This is particularly absurd given that several of the books contain “offensive imagery” only in the most extenuated sense of irritating left-wing zealots. You can still find plenty of listings on eBay for bongs, sex toys, provocative semi-nude photos of porn stars, old issues of Penthouse, framed covers of Hustler, handguns, rifles, swords, machetes, even copies of Mein Kampf, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and The Anarchist Cookbook. Tintin in the Congo is still for sale, and so is Chairman Mao’s Little Red Book. But apparently, On Beyond Zebra is beyond the pale.

‘Anti-Racist’ Organization Says It Can No Longer Use Dr. Seuss Books To Teach Tolerance Because They Don’t Address Structural Racism

Learning for Justice used to use the Dr. Seuss book, “The Sneetches,” to teach children how to overcome visible differences to forge lasting friendships. In the book, there are two types of “Sneetches” — giant, yellow, bird-like creatures with barrel bellies — one with plain bellies and one with star-shaped marks on their bellies. The two groups begin at odds with one another but ultimately learn to see their similarities rather than their singular difference.

Now, though, Teaching Tolerance says Dr. Seuss is under stricter scrutiny as a result of Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ decision to pull six of the author’s lesser-known works over “hurtful and wrong” depictions of certain ethnic groups, and they no longer believe “The Sneetches” is actually “anti-racist” as they assumed.

“In light of a new study revealing stereotyped characters across Dr. Seuss’s children’s books, published just before Read Across America Day, how can educators engage older students in a critical discussion of this canonical author?” the group asked in a post to their website.
