The one in the town I grew up in was not secret. It had a sign that said women's shelter in front. It was a living facility the city built onto the back of the police department. I guess they didn't worry too much about how secret it was since it probably was in the safest place it could be.

Most shelters are not a secret; "safe houses" are kept a secret. They don't have enough of those and they take entirely too much paperwork to get people in them.

I believe that you can also give them to the police dept. to hand out in the same situations. If you do find out, please let me know. We have a number of older cell phone we need to get rid of.

I believe that the shelters that house abused women and children are definitely kept on the down low so that their battering spouses can't find them.

Nextel offices will take them in for donation to the needy.
