I think it is called ebonomics and some school systems have gone to great lengths to end it. Diplomatically, of course!

Another thing that pissed me off.

In high school, I wrote many words in their british equivalents....coloUr, humoUr, etc. I had an english teacher that let a black student get away with....pretty much anything "how r u doin?" yet I got marked down for "The colour of this pencil is most humorous"

At Leonardtown Middle, I had an English teacher who marked my paper down for this:

After the storm passed, I noticed the main mast lay broken, in three pieces, the length of the ship.

He said it was an "awkward" sentence. He was a real POS :dork:.

Judgemental people are annoying.

I always had a problem with punctiation. Until my teacher gave me this example:

I was told to help Jack, off the horse.

-vs-

I was told to help jack off the horse.

I can't stand the term African-Americans..... I'm not Italian, Welsh American

That gets to me too. I have never used that term to describe black people. It's stupid. If a white person from South Africa moves here and becomes a citizen, he would be more African-American that the black people here now.

And yeah. The various speech discrepencies aren't always a black thing but it is associated with them the most. Have you ever heard someone tell a white person to quit talking black? Maybe not, but it does happen. I work with a wonderful black guy. He speeks Ebonics. His biggest problem is that he can't say the letter "r". He replaces it with a "W." The number Zero is Zewo. He's say Genewa instead of General. He also likes to axes lots of questions. On the other hand, one of my good friends is very black but you wouldn't know it if you were talking to him on the phone. He even likes country music and is one of the biggest rednecks I know.

You still have a problem with punctuation (and spelling). "Until my teacher gave me this example:" isn't a complete sentence.

:yeahthat: I get a kick out of it. It's like a big joke. I'm not allowed to check the box for "African American" because, apparently, the countries from Morocco to Egypt aren't part of Africa.
