radar detector VS. radar jammer

Would any of you recommend a radar detector or jammer? I am thinking of getting both because when I am in VA you can't use the RD's

And radar jamming, in addition to being ineffective, are an FCC violation, not just local.

Now, a detector is illegal in VA, and while modern detectors will hide themselves electronically from the police devices, it cannot hide itself from the nice officer himself. You could plan to grab it and tos it in the back, but he will most likely see it.

Hidden ones are available, but are expensive, the install time is considerable. Lastly, most folks are not willing to actually spend the time required to really use a detector, which is just one aspect of safely evading the speed laws. Knowing the habits of the officers, where they hang, how they catch you, what techniques they employ. Thats where detectors bad rap comes from, mostly, folks stick one up, and expect it to be some magic box that means they never get a ticket again.

Nope, you need to understand how it works, and its weak point, how to read traffic for times when it doesnt. Local false alarms, that sort of thing. Even so, with all that, they can get, its much harder for them though.

not in MD, DC and PA

Actually, detectors are illegal in the District. And jammers are illegal everywhere, the FCC frowns highly upon unlicensed radio transmissions.

Laser jammers, still legal most places, but thats changing. And the incidence of lasers is low still.

Definately hide mine. There is talk about a radar that incorporate satellite, laser and radar technology. I wasn't talking about the cheap crap. If I am going to invest in such a thing, I make sure its the best. Just want to get an idea which is better. I know they have the combo versions as well.

How about slowing down within limits that won't get you busted.

In town, I am way below speed limits. I need for when I am on the highway. haven't gotten a ticket yet because I know where they hang out. I need one for a precaution.

Mine does that, and its fairly unobstrusive.

I got busted on the beltway in 2003 by LASER.. and the only thing the detector did for me was to tell me.. "You're getting a ticket, pull over!!"

The best Radar Detector in the world is to have a "Rabbit" in front of you. Doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's worked for me dozens of times.

Hang in the right lane until someone flies by you in the left.. then sneak in behind him.. a couple hundred yards should be good. 9/10 they'll get the Rabbit, and leave you alone.

Radar Roy's Blog Former cop that test radar detectors and other counter measures great site lots of great tests and straight talk and answers. I used to sell auto electronics and stuff so I would refer people to this site for questions and whats best and what to avoid

I have used both BEL and Whistler products with good results , I have a BEL STI Remotes and BEL STI for my travel. I have remotes mounted in my cars because I travel in VA and I just got tired of having them visible. They do have nice little pouches you can mount on your visor and the little bird dog rests in side , most high end units have smart cords that have on off and volume on the cigar lighter plus. I use one of them when I travel , out of site

VASP use Spectra 11 Radar Detector Dectectors to sniff out leaking Detectors there are only a couple that it cant sniff out the best is the BEL STi and new Escorts ( same company make then both ) one thing it has a metal case on the STI most the other are plastic and we know RF can leak through plastic. The other hi end one is Valentine1 all high end units and higher quality build , better electronics you get what you pay for.. The remotes are a bit pricey but it has saved me few times on the open road. There are some good Laser Jammers on the market the Blinder is one there are others , there are some demos on the Radar Roys site. I get good laser and radar warning with both. Most cases I am not going that fast , not like the Rt4 International Speedway.

To give a idea how good that BEL is I was setting beside a VASP car last week at a light with my Bel Remote on and that RDD on his dash was quiet , no 45.00 fine that day. My friend has a wireless remote that got him 45.00 fine this winter the cop got him on 95 south of Richmond , funny thing he turned off the inside unit but the antenna is wired to the battery and it was powered up screaming here I am , the officer helped him unhook it from the battery gave him his ticket and told him to have a nice day

Most Dash monuted GPS units you can load Red Light and Speed Camera data bases in them now there are sites where you can get this information for free or couple bucks. Its basically file you load and bingo you have both stationary and locations where the cops setup pretty regular. Most new RDs have GPS built in to tag areas where radar or laser is setup

If your going to DC or VA get one that has good shielding or turn it off . I know VA its 45.00 buch fine DC not sure

Oh on the Radar Roy site there is link to the Spectre RDD what it really is how it works , its a cheap Radar Detector that has been tuned to pic up RF from other detectors then placed in a little box with lights that blink.

ditto that. I do that all the time and have had some close calls then I have them follow me for 2-5 miles before they go away.

Nothing will save you from laser, indeed. I agree with your "rabbit", I call them cop catchers, and they are just one more tool in the box.

Get a cheap detector to use in VA. The cops run their radar on all the time so they're easy to pick up.
