I bought a GE from Lowe's. I have not had any problems with scratches. I just made sure I bought flat bottom cookware (as opposed to the type with a little curve that I previously had). You do not want the cookware to bounce around when boiling (which can cause scratches). I have had it for 2 years and no scratches.

Dag nabit Vince, I had talked myself out of going this route
The gas company will do the hookup for you. When my old electric finally bites the bullet, I'm going gas. It might be more expensive per bottle, but cheaper to run. I don't use the cooktop much, but I use the crap out of the oven.

Ive had my flat top stove about 8 or so yrs now. Love it, no scratches. Cleans up nice but one thing to warn new owners. I have 1- burned myself numerous times not paying attention because once you turn off the burner and the red goes away its easy to forget its still hot. 2- again with the hot burners, once I forgot I had a hot burner still and set a 2 pound bag of peas on the top of the stove and in my rush of cooking, grabbed the bag of peas and had 2000 peas on the kitchen floor from the melted bag.

Sweet Ride! I like the black goes with my kitchen color scheme. Even has a convection oven :yay:

That's the part I like. It's both regular and convection..you choose what you want to use. If you use convection, it has a feature that converts the temp and cooking times (lower/shorter).

Looking to by a new range, prefer gas, but that's a non-starter. So between the coil type and the smooth top, one any better than the other, experiences?

TIA!

Smooth top is great as long as you take care of it (use proper cleaning pad and cleaner) so it doesn't get scratch. We have ours almost 3 years now still looks brand new even with several overboil incidents. Cleans better when it is still a little warm to touch.

Why wouldn't you use convection over regular oven heat? And I'm not trying to be a smart azz.

The convection feature uses circulated air for faster and more even cooking :nerd:

I currently have a gas stove (it is old) and water heater and it's running me $75-90 a month so we are going with an electric water heater and stove here soon. I know most of the money is from the water heater but still gas is just not very economical these days. Maybe natural gas would be but there's only propane available in my area.

Smooth top the way to go. We brought a Kenmore Elite Model # 96593 in April and I'm extremely happy. I even cook more often. :elaine:

I hate my smooth top and prefer coils. Actually, I prefer gas over anything, but if that's not an option, go with the coils.
