Now I usually want to believe the best of people. We have guys like rraley who can carry a civil conversation without being juvenile. But I really couldn't believe these folks were giving sanction to behavior that would have them IN AN OUTRAGE were the roles reversed. Apparently, moral high ground doesn't matter. It's pretty Machiavellian.
And I thought about this, and your reply, and one thing just seems to keep coming back to me. The left doesn't trust people - THAT much, I knew; too much legislation and ideas from the left are basically, how do we make SURE people don't f*ck up things? But it was apparent from these guys that the left also doesn't have much regard for people in terms of how smart they are. That it's important to shut down all those false ideas and messages from the right, because omigod what if people started to actually *believe* them?
Maybe I'm not privy to these kinds of things, but I'm not familiar with the right trying to shut down publication of damaging points of view. Kerry's efforts to silence his critics is absolutely one reason I would NEVER vote for him; he's not even President and he's doing this.
Most conservatives I know have the approach that if their message doesn't resonate with the people, then that's their right. Most liberals I know believe if THEIR message doesn't resonate with the people, the PEOPLE ARE STUPID or the REPUBLICANS screwed it up for them. Most conservatives I know believe the left should say all they want, so that their foolishness will be plain to all. When they froth at the mouth and get nasty, people will see it for what it is; they won't give Gore points for gasping and sighing through the debates like a teenager. Most liberals I know think the people are morons and they need to be told what the facts are, because they're too stupid to figure it out for themselves.

I love how he's trying to cover his tail now. He's found a 90+ year old secretary who's relating hear-say about how Bush was a "favorite son" while claiming the C...BS documents are... BS. I heard part of the interview, and he keeps asking about if the statements in the documents are true, and not much about if they are forgeries or not. She says she's sure they're forgeries, but all Rather wants to know is if the content is correct.
