I think most people do not want to dive too deep into the story -

A black man died - a white man was subduing him - ergo, a white man is getting away with killing a black man.

Admittedly, I haven't followed it all that closely either - I know a little more - that a homeless man with a considerable rap sheet came onto a subway train, repeatedly threatening passengers, lunging at them, standing within a foot of them and threatening to kill them - saying he wasn't afraid of going to jail for life. That Penny put him in a choke hold until the train stopped. That every single person present said they did fear he would harm them. That Penny under no circumstances intended to kill him and that Jordan Neely was alive when he was removed from the train.

By the accounts of those actually there - they testified that they believed the man was a threat - even from riders accustomed to lunatics on the subway.

I do understand Daniel's statement - that had he done NOTHING - which is what more and more of these protests are strongly encouraging people to do - and someone had gotten hurt or killed - the guilt would have haunted him forever.

The neverending cycle of protesting the death of a man over race detracts from actual issues - it makes people LESS likely to be interested in the issue, because they can always depend on the same players.
