ready to call the pound but don't wanna

I have been dealing with a neighbor who lets their dog roam the neighborhood for over three years now. My neighbor’s dog cuts through our yard on his daily romps about two or three times a day. He's a male, not fixed, and finds my landscaping an appealing bathroom site and then likes to tuff up the ground.

At first, I called my neighbor and asked if they could keep a better eye on their dog when he was out. After about the fifth or sixth call like that, she asked me if I had a dog and wasn't it a female. I do. Well, she said, that's the reason he's so aggressive in my yard :yikes: ...I explained that even though our dog is an enticing bioch, she is not out roaming the streets and is walked on a leash, as are the other dogs in the neighborhood. didn't phase her.

I have even caught the dog in mid crap in my yard, leashed him and taken him home with the poop in a baggie...still nothing....I've asked them if they needed help putting up a fence that I would be glad to help them,,,,nothing......

I would rather not call the pound as I don't know if these people are intelligent enough to think to call there when they notice the dog doesn't come home for a few days...it's not the dogs fault!! but I think the $$$ it would cost to get him back might finally have some effect on them.

The only other thing I can think of is to pepper spray him or more creatively spray him with some type of non toxic paint to embarrass the owners into submission.....any other ideas?

Unless you feel the dog is a threat to you, don't use pepper spray on him. He hasn't done anything that doesn't come perfectly natural to him. Don't paint him, he's private property.

You really have no choice but to call animal control.

Just call the dog catcher, it sounds like the owners don't take care of the dog anyway. When they have to keep paying fines to get the dog out, maybe then they will keep it leashed.

:yeahthat: Or the dog will get an owner that actually wants him.

:yeahthat: Had some old lady in my neighborhood that let her dog run loose all the time. The dog bit my daughter while she was riding her bike on that street. I called animal control, they picked up the dog and held it until she came up with shot papers and paid a fine to get the dog out.

Well,...........
Here is the deal.
If the dog is not hurting anything, I wouldn't call. (It would have to be aggressive first)

After three years, I would have become chums with him.(the dog)

I have gardens and flowers too so, I can appreciate the efforts you have put forth to make something look beautiful, however, it would go against my grain to call the dog law.

The owners aren't going to take this seriously because it has been going on for so long.

I would be in the same predicament.

So, what finally happened that made you think of calling the authorities?

Oh! and believe me, if your dog was at large, they would probably be the first to call.
Stupid humans.

So you would just let the dog and it's owners walk all over you?

I would call animal control and have the dog picked up. It is not humane to have the dog roaming freely and at risk.

What a way to view it!

That is not what I was implying.
I meant, I am not into having pets locked up for wandering.

It doesn't bother me a bit. Growing up everyones dog came through the yard at home. (Ironically, our dog was always chained up and unable to run)
If a dog or a child came around and was aggressive with the dog, THEN the law was called.

Dog pounds, IMO, are for worse case scenarios.
After three effing years of frequent visits, the owners are not gonna take anything seriously.

Tell the person (the dog owners) how you feel (I'm sure you've done this, do it again) but this time inform them that if you catch the dog doing it again you will take a picture of it and do one of the following.

-Call animal control and let them deal with it. simple as that, not your dog not your problem.

or, (don't tell the owners and do one of these)

-make copies and plaster them on every telephone poll in the neighborhood with the owners name and home number stating they lost their dog and they will get a lot of calls and piss them off for letting their phone ring off the hook.

-put the owners name and number with a message stating what this dog does and if any sees it to inform them. And again let the phone ring off the hook

I'm actually not trying to be an ass for once, I just don't understand how you could not mind someone else's dog dropping bombs in your yard. That would piss me off. Stupid owners that let their dogs run wild, should not have dogs. How are they going to feel when it gets run over by a car?

Well, there's that part of it.

In my SIL's neighborhood the dogs will occasionally get interested in each other and romp over into another yard to check out the situation. But the owner is always right there after them to drag them back home. You shouldn't just let your dog out to roam because not only are they a nuisance, but they could get run over or attacked by another dog.

So Spook, call animal control in good conscience!

Dog poo is nasty, but it just doesn't get me that worked up.

There is a gal who walks her dog real early before the sun comes up and her rottie poos right in front of my mail box everyday. (She leaves it)

My dog goes down and pees on it!

I am hoping the grass will get greener now! It has be so barren there for so long.

My point.....Said neighbor thinks she is being clever. I am hoping for nice results.

Yes, dog poo does fertilize and not kill grass. (I don't wanna hear it from all you who think otherwise)

If a dog comes in the yard and acts the azz, I have gone to the owner's door.
It usually helps if you say something like..
"Saw your dog up the street and some teens, that I didn't recgonize, were trying to get it in the car."
Then they try to keep the pooch in to keep it from being stolen.

Humans sometimes have to be coerced in order for you to get your way with them
