Recommendation for a good *local* bank?

Fellow SoMD-ers...my husband and I are getting fed up with the big banks and are considering switching to a local SoMD bank.

We don't use our "brick and mortar" bank for much, beyond e-bill pay and a safety deposit box...and was wondering if anyone has suggestions for local credit unions and or banks in the SoMD area that aren't affiliated with the "big guys" - B of A, PNC, Sun Trust, etc...

Any advice you have would be great, thanks!

I use Maryland Bank & Trust and Cedar Point FCU. Absolutely no problems with either. Great customer service.

My experience with the Lexington Park MB&T has been awful. I hear the other branches are good though.

No problems with Ceder Point.

I know you're looking for a "local" bank not affiliated with a big group but I'm gong to suggest this one anyway as you're listed as "Calvert".

We started with Maryland Federal Savings & Loan back in the early '80's. They were bought out by BB&T (based in North Carolina). They have kept the exceptional service the entire time. We particularly liked the moral stance that the corporate heads took a few years ago when they decided that they would not finance any group that moved to take over property using "eminent(sp?) domain" (recent court case that made it easier to do and I don't remember the case name but I'm sure someone else will) because they thought it was wrong. Imagine, a bank that put morals over money!

Anyway, "them's my kinda people"! I would recommend them to anyone!:yay:

All, thanks so much for the leads! We're going to start doing reserach this week. I think our main problem with the bank we use right now is that we really don't want to be contributing any revenue to a company that got us all caught up in this mortgage mess - - and I know there are so many causes, etc, etc, but I've always tried to keep my money with companies that have good management...all the way to the top...and I'm not so happy with the management and leadership at the bank we've got...tangent I know but thanks -- and any other suggestions, I'd love to hear em!

:howdy:

I have BOA (Bank of America) for checking/savings and CPFCU for loans and credit cards. I LOVE CPFCU!! They have several locations in the area and all of the staff are nice. I like the convenience of BOA though since they're everywhere.

BB&T been with them since before the BB&T days proably almost thirty years, back when it use to be United Bank, then I think First Virginia or United Virginia and then maybe something else before BB&T took over. Never had a problem.
