I'm trying to figure out an overseas tour for me and my sons. I promised them a tour for high school graduation and now have to deliver. I'm thinking London/ England, but haven't really convinced them of that yet.

Can anyone suggest a travel agency or tour group or give me any hints on how to get this planned???

Where do they want to go?

I personally would recommend Italy, but that's because I love Italy. You could fly to Italy, and take a train throughout the country to visit the various places. There's a lot to see there. Even if you find a tour of several countries, a train trip throughout Europe would be a way to see a lot in a certain period of time.

Depends.. What do you want to see?

If you can, even if you do a tour, take a few days to get lost and visit small villages in the middle of nowhere.. Can't experience Europe AT Tourist Destinations AND BIG cities.. You NEED To Experience THE Cows Living In The Basement AND Farmers Taking Their Pigs FOR walks.

High school BOYS? That's a no brainer - a week in the red light district and coffe shops of Amsterdam!

If you are going to go to England, I would highly recommend going to Scotland, wales and France and hit the main spots. There are hostels you can stay in or there are sites that rent out their sofas, spare bedrooms etc. Here is the link https://www.airbnb.com/ We used this site for a place to stay in Mombasa, Kenya breakfast is included. Also, make sure you have the appropriate visas to travel.

Not sure how long your are planning the trip but this is a suggestion doing a trip via the Euroline http://www.eurolines.com/en/

One of my favorite magazines is National Geographic Traveler. Since you asked for recommendations for tours of Europe, rather than "what country should I take my boys to?", I'm going to suggest having a look at the magazine, or their website. It may give you some ideas. Personally, even though I've travelled extensively with a previous employer, I'd go with an organized tour. They generally give you plenty of time to explore, but keep you on the move. Europe is a lot of fun, and soooo much to see. If you do go in the summer time, be sure to take advantage of some of the countries with the midnight sun - you'll have so much energy and see soooo much!

An easy option is Iceland - you can actually catch a non-stop flight there on IcelandAir that takes about the same time as flying to LA. It is an easy country to navigate on your own with a rental car with lots of sites and activities - glacier climbing, whale watching, etc. This is an example of places to rent in Iceland - Hotel Fljótshl#ð | Country hotel on the farm Smáratún. Places like this, 'farm cottages', are common throughout Iceland. We did stay at the place I linked back in 2005.

Be prepared for the expense of food though! Even when shopping in the grocery stores to fix your own meals in these cottages is going to be expensive. The scenery in the country is well worth the expense though. We went in August and temps were only in the 60s - not beach weather but a great escape from the heat and humidity that plagues us here that time of the year.

I, personally, would recommend any river cruise on the Danube or Rhine rivers. Awesome. Especially if you are infatuated with castles and cathedrals.

I was a kid in Germany (Army brat) from 62 - 66, and my dad hauled the family around endlessly. It was absolutely fascinating to visit those places, and ride the river boats.:buddies:

Or fly into Frankfurt and rent a car. Start at Heidelberg and take the Romantic Road to Bavaria. Make stops in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Neuschwanstein Castle and points in between.

Been there, done that - all places you mentioned. Unforgettable memories to this day. But there is a different view from a boat moving down river, with all the scheduled stops.

Europe is a fascinating place to see, for sure.

Thanks, Dad, for making us go to all those places!

I have been at riverside restaurants and watched those boats go by. Personally, I like to have a car and go where I want to. INHO.
