The issue comes when the work is entered with a due date, but the accompanying grade isnt entered. System automatically lowers the students score. Maybe they need to account for lag time before the system calculates the grade.

that is a very odd setup. most of the time, if the grade is left blank it is not factored into the overall grade. Until there is a score put in, it's as if that assignment doesn't exist. Are the teachers even aware that this is happening? Might want to politely mention it to the teacher.

Sounds like there might be a bit of a programming issue. I'd bet that the teachers who are hearing from parents about this on a routine basis have been complaining hot & heavy about it to the "powers-that-be".
