It is legal to sell crab pots without the turtle BRD or crab cull rings attached. But it is not legal for waterfront property owners to use crab pots without them. The turtle BRD requirement does not apply to commercial crabbers because they are not allowed to set crab pots in the tributaries where terrapins occur.

Most people would not get caught with pots without extruders. DNR has been watching this guy for awhile. His son was caught stealing oysters from a local oyster farm last year and sentenced to 15 months in prison. The oysters were taken to his fathers house. Don't know if Daddy was involved but I am sure DNR has been keeping an eye on him.

Mine has the cull rings, but not the turtle thing. I guess I can get them at Walmart.
Never cauight a turtle in the pots before. Get a lot of catfish though.

Don't know about Walmart. Be careful about buying from out of state as other states have different turtle excluder size requirements. This is an old list that doesn't have local places, but I can't find the newer one:

I saw the galvanized wire type at Sneade's Ace Hardware in Lusby recently.
There is a seller in BelAir who sells them for $2 each with shipping included. I'll look for their site (they used to sell on ebay too for same price) and post it if I can find it.

kcrabpots in BelAir sells them online and on ebay. Their ebay name is kcrabpots but they have a message on their site that they are away until June 27 (contact info kcrabpots@aol.com 410-979-8499). They sell the orange plastic BRDs at 4/$8, shipping included.

That makes a lot more sense.

Don't get on your local wardens ####list.
