Definitely find out as much as you can about the breed before you buy...make sure he fits in w/ your lifestyle (active or low energy, etc). Do research before making a final decision, asking other owners for their opinion is a great idea. Good luck in your search!

Thank you, I currently own 3 labs and want to make sure their happy home will not be un-done by a new breed.

If the coonhound doesn't work out, I know of a 3 or 4 yr old lab that needs a good home! : )

Anyone know where I can get one?
Hey Sanchez-check out Wikipedia's take on Redbones...

They are very affectionate, but can be overwhelming to small children or even adults if not properly trained.
Conversely, young coonhounds are energetic and need lots of activity, or they will become destructive. This can lead to acting out in the form of chewing and baying. They take a longer time to train than some other breeds, because they mature more slowly both physically and mentally.
Some Redbones drool a significant amount, and others have a very doggy smell. They are all loud, loud barkers.

Sounds like most of the dogs I own!
Like most hunting dogs-they all need "a job" and purpose.
Good luck!

they are barkers
Oh yeah forgot to tell you that in the pm. They love to bark, they bark when you come home, they bark when you leave, they bark when you try to talk, they bark when the phone rings. hmmmm Oh yeah if a bag blows down the street another trigger, if someone else walks down the street they bark. He went in for a cancer surgery and we thought he would be out of commission for a couple of days with the meds and all. Nope he was his rude obnoxious self before the night was over. They are a little hyper, but mine was never destructive except he has a fetish for cardboard. We could never leave any cardboard laying around or he would tear it into little pieces. Oh and never give them a xmas gift because they will beg and get in your face while you are trying to open your own gifts. One year he decided to open all presents under the tree without waiting for us. I love him but will never ever get another as my laid back house is not ideal for a hunting dog. I hope this expanded info helps you. They are a beautiful dog but you have to be aware of what you might get into. I suggest finding a redbone forum and read what other owners say. Don't fall for the cute face as I did!

All of these descriptions describe my catahoula. :lmao: Mouthy (barks a lot, not biting ), obnoxious, destructive when he feels he's not getting enough attention, etc. Oh, and he's very needy too. :lmao:

I've got a friend who just had an opps litter of Bluetick and Aussie Shepherd - they are only a week and half old so not sure who they will favor. Unless you're set on a purebred, let me know and I'll try to post some pics.

We rescued our Bluetick 5 years ago, knowing nothing about the breed! She has eaten a sectional, a matress and the back seat of my jeep. VERY demanding for attention, Bob Barker and STUBBORN. But fun and lovable and full of personality. She does not get along well with other dogs, except Labs!!!!! She's best buddies w/evrty lab she knows :lmao: .
