Relocate to Maryland

I have a Southern accent and there are a lot of Military that have been transferred here from VA and other places so accents are abounding. Stereo-types are everywhere. I still deal with the "blonde" thing. This place won't be any different in the stereo-type than anywheere else you've been most likely.

Now, GET OFF MY LAWN, ya little whippersnapper!:killingme
Actually, woogie is mostly correct. 2nd Amendment rights are curtailed. You CAN defend yourself in your own home, but a carry license is out of the question unless you can "prove" a threat exists against your person, you carry large sums of cash, or are politically connected. The crime rate reflects this, as criminals (gosh, are you sitting down?) ignore the laws. Doubt this? Compare MD crime stats with those of adjacent states with "Shall Issue" laws. The difference is marked.

Came back to San Antonio about 2 1/2 years ago with no regrets. We miss a few things from MD such as Crabbing, Gardening ( the soil here in north San Aantonio is very rocky for the first 2 inches, and then turns to solid limestone.) I miss my roses, but am working on raised beds.
Also the proxemity to DC and the museums etc.
How does my old house look Sharon?

Hey C! :howdy: I was in San Antonio 2 weeks ago. I really hated to leave because I wanted to see more and probably won't get back anytime soon.

Your house is well taken care of. Whatever you planted in front has really grown. Remind me to send you a pic in the springtime if you want one.

Hookem, I don't hate MD, it's a beautiful state, but I very much dislike what it has become. Like Woogie, I grew up in PG Co. back in the 60's-70's, I left (PG) in the early 80's and then came to settle in SoMD. Maryland used to be such a nice place. If you never left it you wouldn't know that there are so many places that are better to live or just be, for a ton of reasons depending on where ya go. I wouldn't mind an unincorporated town in Montana if it wasn't so cold in the winter.

No offense taken, and FWIW, I'll relocate too, as soon as I can. Shame, too, as Callaway is still pretty quiet and out of the way.

It'll make ya feel good..
I came to southern maryland from a state up north. Up there, I got a good education, and loved life. The crime rate was getting so bad in Maryland, that the police departments went " Out of state " to recruit. So I came down here five years ago, because I couldn't say no to the money that was being offered.

Some of you say that the majority of the people complaining about maryland, are people whom are not from maryland to begin with. Well, I like to point out that that seems to be the problem. If you stand in a room, that has a funny smell, after a while, the smell isn't so funny anymore. Now, have someone who hasn't ever been in that room walk in. The room still has a funny smell. Just because YOU can't smell it anymore, or never smelled it to begin with, doesn't mean it doesn't stink. There is a saying in the military, " just because you poor syrup on dogsh*t, doesn't make it pancakes". Majority of the people, back in the day here, I am sure, were polite, considerate and kind. But take a look around you folks. This state is falling down around you, and you just stand there and try to remember the " good ol' days ".

The people in Annapolis don't care what you think. They don't care that you are having trouble making the mortgage payment. ( not that that is their responsibility ) or that you are eating mustard sandwiches because you are stretched thin until your next pay check. I mean, they are raising taxes, gouging you at the pumps, just making money off of you hand over fist, but " Maryland is a good ol' place, right?" Wrong. It seems to me, ( and this is 5-6 years of enforcing maryland laws and confronting the worst that Maryland's society has to offer on a daily basis, plus testifying in court ) that the public just doesn't have a clue. Everyone is trying to stick their fingers in the dike, and not paying attention to the San Andreas fault size crack, running up the face of the dam.

Now, I was raised that working hard, faith in god and taking what you want, will get you a good education, earn you a good life, and a shot at the American dream. The rest, people, is up to you. But life is HARD. No one is promised or guaranteed anything. Just because you are alive, doesn't entitle you to free healthcare, doesn't entitle you to a driver's license and welfare. You aren't entitled to anything, you have to EARN these things, and make you own way. When you depend on someone for something, expect to be played with along the way. The public is DEPENDENT on Annapolis, and they are playing with us, every step along the way. There's a saying I believe in, " You can't respect someone who kisses your ass". And the society in this here state, is kissing the assess of every single elected official in the state.

Sorry to hurt your feelings, this wasn't directed at any one person. Just a little truth to wash down your crab-cake with. 4 years of college, I am glad I can get the hell out while I can.

crabcake

But wait, there's more...
We are run by brain-challenged socialist democrats. The summers are hot and humid, we have hurricanes. The police are revenue raisers for the state or after-the-fact crime crowd control. MD will take your money and send it to PG and Balto. counties for the lazy non-working class bum excuse makers who don't work. Mogo county is like little Kali, every piece of crap legislation starts there and spreads throughout the state like a contagious disease. The people here are generally rude and they drive like nuts. We have virus laden ticks and mosquitoes and franken fish in our waters.

Sharon's good for telling it like it is. :yay:

Well. Stay south of White Plains in Charles County if you move here. I moved down to Charles County in 1978 from Morningside (PG County) as a kid as my parents saw the "wave" coming (crime). In 2007, I packed my kids up at the same age I was when I migrated to Charles and moved us to King George, VA. NO REGRETS! I could have moved to St Marys but I was betting that the wave hits there way before it hits my new home. I just need 10 more years to get my kids thru school and I think here, I can make it. I hope to stay where I am at but if the wave ever shows up, I will head toward the eastern Northern Neck.

I am thinking of relocting to Maryland from Dallas,Texas (big change I know) and am looking for a little help. It is for personal reasons and do plan on taking my time. I have been to a few towns in the state an just feel in love. It also helps that I have a very close friend is southern PA. I am a 32yr old female and just looking for any first-hand information on a couple smaller cities or towns.

I can throw a rock from my workplace across the PA state line:whistle:

The most repeated statemnet so far the goverment kills you with taxes (among other things). You all keep saying you are this big Democratic state but at the same time your gov is robbing you blind, driving you all poor, lol
Here I am in a Republican state, no state tax, property taxes aren't too high, school taxes are pretty good with the lotto being here the past 10 years... Our state gov has been pretty nice and well respected for the most part. We have our flaws, LORD we have our flaws.... which we will not go into, but...
