Relocate to Maryland

mommarock;

I'm a MD native. I'm unhappy over what MD has turned into.
I remember what it was. I hope I wasn't too rude with the
post, just trying to give a little history from the first-person
point of view. Lived in several parts of MD over my life. The
biggest problem is that MD is run by the special interests and
"progressive thinkers" in the MD Legislature in Annapolis who
have a "Big Brother" attitude towards their constituents. I've
met quite a few of these politicians over the years who have
actually said that we don't know what's good for us and they
do!

Parents no longer have any rights concerning what their children
learn or see or hear in schools. Parents no longer have any rights
when it comes to the raising/rearing of their children. Everything
is mandated by the State and if you DARE to deviate from it you
WILL answer to the State! (DSS, CPS, Education, etc.)

Citizens no longer have ANY say in what the State government
does with THEIR tax monies! Citizens no longer have ANY say
in what the State does with their property or their property rights.
Citizens no longer can expect the State to adequately furnish
public safety or public works support as this money must FIRST
go to the "disadvantaged" (read ... non-working slobs who are
more interested in getting into illegal activities and replicating
than doing an honest day's work!).
Citizens are no longer allowed by the State to speak what's on
their minds (1st Ammendment anyone?) because that would hurt
"other cultures" and "infringe on others' rights" (hence it is now
a suspencion-offense to say "Christmas" in school, but we can
talk ALL ABOUT Rahmadan, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year,
etc.)

Citizens are no longer allowed to protect their homes, families or
persons due to laws enacted by the State (2nd Ammendment anyone?)
Yet the criminals can freely intrude into your lives, homes, etc. and
injure, steal and destroy with complete impunity! (THEY have "rights"!)

Citizens in Md no longer enjoy privacy in their homes or on their property
as the State has enacted laws that govern what they can do on
thier property and with their property and what they can keep on
their property. (4th Ammendment anyone?)

I was brought up to respect EVERYBODY. I still open doors, say
"Good morning ma'm" to ANY woman. To say "yes sir" and "no ma'm"
to ANY other adult, and to address ANY adult by "Mr." or Mrs./Ms"
regardless of nationality, color or whatever. I was taught to respect
ANYone else's traditions and customs and their right to have them.
But I was ALSO taught that I should respect MY family and MY customs
as well. I don't look down on others, I just don't want others shoved
down my throat!

I don't hate MD, I just hate what it has become! I know I can't
change it, so I left. For my family's safety and my family's happiness.
I do, however, think it is OK to tell others how things are and let
them make their own decision as to whether to relocate or not. But
they are entitled to know the WHOLE story.

Woogie - I wasn't speaking of you specifically. As a matter of fact I agree with some of your post and I respect the way you explained your feelings/opinions. You at least did so intelligently. You have very valid points, however not all of the teens working in the restaurants, etc. are from here (St. Mary's) (maybe they belong to some of the transplants) and I believe that parents need to teach respect, values, etc. They are not going to get all of that from the school system, especially if they have no reinforcement at home. I also believe that the "No Child Left Behind Act" has affected the shcool systems throughout the entire country. So Maryland isn't the only place being affected by our government. At this time, yes, but time will tell.

What I dont like about being back in Maryland is a lot of people are just angry and unhappy. I want to go up to them and ask why. Our third day back in Maryland I got flipped the bird, so I smiled.

Ever seen Ghostbusters 2, where all the evil slime was building under the city and causing mayhem everywhere? that's what it is.... evil slime in the Patuxent/Potomac rivers.. seeping into well water and making everyone evil.
I'm starting to feel it myself. Why the other day, I found myself tempted to shove old carpet padding into garbage bags to keep from driving all the way down to Solomon's dump....

seriously,..I think I have a talent for meeting every crabby-@ssed grouch bag in Calvert co. ...and that's all you can do...smile humorously..

Rude doesn't stop at MD state line, I promise. We have our share (large share at that). We have crappy waiters in restaurants. There are horrible drives (you do not want to be in Dallas rush hour) we have so many highways that run through, around and beside the city that it causes for some angry people trying to get home. I'm sure we tend to call people rude a lot more/faster just because we expect everyone to say hi and smile, say yes mame and no sir, and open the door for you. I mean growing my Mom and Dad (aunts/uncle, grandparents, teachers) SHOWED their disapproval when these things weren't done. That was also a different time and place

OK, ya'll need to move to Austin, Texas!!! It is nice pretty, liberal, and very relaxed part of Texas! It is a City that still has a small town feel to it, no one cares what you are as long as you are having fun doing it.

I swear I don't know why everybody keeps saying the folks here are so rude and crabby. When I moved here from VA two years ago I was overwhelmed by how nice and friendly almost everybody was and even now I still feel that way. Of course I usually smile at everyone and ask them How Are You? and say Thank You and Have a Nice Day so maybe that helps them be nicer. Or it irritates them enough that they'll say anything so I will just go away!

Man!
16 pages of folks who are not from here and dont want to be here. No question that things have changed around here - but they have everywhere else.
Been to NOVA lately? Not meant to be a comment as to the people but there are so many people moving to this area.
Any place is what you make of it. Maryland has great people and places.
Oh - I was that barefoot kid in the top of the dabacca barn.
hookem you go ahead and move here. The orneryist folks on this site will be the first to welcome you. :howdy:

I am relocating as well!

My husband was offered a job with the Blue Crabs and we will be moving to the Waldorf area with in the next few weeks.
I have only been to the town once and didn't get to see a lot of it. I have read this post and just wanted to see if anyone had any tips on neighborhoods, schools, etc. and especially any information on Montessori schools in the area. We have 2 children ages 6 and 2.
We currently live in SC so I think I am in for a big change. Everyone seemed nice when I was there the other weekend. Hopefully, everything will be ok!!!
Thanks in advance!!

Come on down! Southern Maryland's slogan is "the land of pleasant living".
You live the way you want, and down here it's like living in a park. Most of the natives don't bite, but the occasional one will take a chunk out (mainly your patience). Unfortunately the boys in Annapolis (State Government) have loaded us up with taxes on taxes - again. Don't expect it to be cheap, or even inexpensive, living here. The only thing "FREE" in "The Free State" is the motto.
Waldorf is definitely a built up town with more people in a ten mile radius than almost anywhere else in SoMD. Take a look around, the Blue Crab stadium is pretty centrally located.
Welcome.
