Eat More Beef, Less Chkn
Hookem, I hope you have a good move, wherever you decide to settle. We're from New Braunfels, TX originally (you may be one of the only people on this forum who knows where that is!), but my husband was Navy so we moved around some. We've been in Virginia Beach, VA for almost 8 years, but now hubby has retired and is about to start a defense contract job at Pax River. We're looking forward to this move to a less crowded area. I firmly believe that home is where you make it, and that you should always try to get involved in your community and appreciate whatever it has to offer! We've been living with traffic and crime and all that comes with living in a crowded place. No place is perfect, but if you try to make your corner of the world a better place it has to be good in some ways, right?

Been there...dun that :howdy:

When you talk about Great Mills being an area to stay away from, are you talking about the new housing area at the bottom of GM road? I can't remember the name...Cecil's Mill? Also I saw a beautiful home in the new section of Bay Ridge, it looks like a very good neighborhood.

Wow! You caught on pretty quick. You're going to see a lot of MD bashing here yet you won't hear much about people actaully taking action and leaving MD. That basically says that MD can't be all bad.

I am guessing a lot of people cannot just up and change jobs that easily ?

but hey it is just a guess :coffee:

OHHS - Class of 84

:howdy:

I know a few people that got out of there a couple years ago... I feel sorry for them. I graduated in 2000 from GP, I was so glad to get away from there.

I am considering WV or PA. In a couple months I might start planning on taking some trips up there just to try to find the right area. From there it would not be much more farther of a drive for work. If I move farther out then I would have to look at getting another job.

You know, St. Mary's is still nice. But I can understand you wanting to get some tax relief.:buddies:

St. Marys is nice... for now. Give it another 5 years or so. I grew up in Brandywine, back in the woods no one around to bother me. Now it's nothing but houses and stores. It makes me sick when I go visit my parents. The woods I grew up in are now gone. It's just a matter of time before St. Marys gets just as bad. MD is trying to drive all of the farmers out so they can get more houses and stores so they can collect more and more taxes. It's def time for a change for me.

Can someone make a recommendation for a good experienced local home builder around here now that I also am relocating here?

I'd be looking for one similar to the one I had tentatively selected back home just before the relocation decision. He is a custom home builder in Appleton, Wisconsin

Are any of those who advertise on this site good from what you have heard?

Lord, I wish my grandfather was still alive. He built so many well known structures in this county.....

Those houses are massive! What was the square foot price in Wisconsin?

From 100 (very basic) to 200. Most around 150.

Then you're in the same ballpark for this area. The quotes I had last spring ranged from 160 - 200, 100 for a low end rambler. Next you'll need land. Those homes don't look as if they'd fit on the lots of most area neighborhoods. Good Luck!
