My husband has been transferred to Waldorf Maryland but I understand the schools are better in St. Mary's. I have been looking for a house to rent but unsure what is where. can anyone help me and let me know where Lexington park is in relation to Waldorf? Also, if looking o the interent, what is a good site to look at a detailed map of Southern Maryland?

Lexington Park is about an hour away from Waldorf, You'd probably want to look more in the Mechanicsville/Hughesville area it's about 30 mins away and not a hateful drive. The schools are ten times better in St. Mary's county, trust me my son has gone to both..

Look under the classifieds on this site for renting house, there are lots of ones ready in Mechanicsville and Hughesville .....

Lexington Park is about a 45 minute drive South of Waldorf. The commute is a common one for many residents. The general consensus that I've observed from parents of school aged children is that the schools in Hollywood/Leonardtown (St. Mary's) are preferable to the ones in Lexington Park. From Hollywood/Leonardtown, the commute to Waldorf will take about 30 minutes.

If you're basing your opinions strictly on school reputations, Calvert County is actually regarded as the place to go. From Prince Frederick (in Calvert) the commute to Waldorf is also about 45 minutes.

:yeahthat: The schools are definitely better in Calvert County - housing on the other hand is more expensive in Calvert vs. St Marys.

I live in Prince Frederick and the commute to Waldorf is only 20-25 minutes. Which way do you go to take 45 minutes?

Parts of Rt. 4 and all of 231 tended to be a little slow going during the rush hours when I used to drive it--that's why I erred on the side of the longer commute. I suppose it is fair to say that 30 minutes is a good bet any other time of day.

30 minutes is a better estimate. I forgot to mention that I'm on the tip of PF in Hallowing Point, so I don't have to travel Rt. 4 to get to Chuck County. :yay:

I currently live in LaPlata about 10 minutes outside of Waldorf. I use to live in Mechanicsville and I did weeks of research and found St Mary's schools (Middle & Elem) do not offer the advance AP classes that my kids fell into. They are currently in classes at Matula ES & Somers MS and they are EXCELLENT schools, I DROVE my kids from Mechanicsville to Laplata to go to school, because I found they were ALOT better. Now that we are in LaPlata I won't move to keep my kids in their current schools.

Your zipcode might be Prince Frederick, but you are at the county line with Charles. If you were near Dares Beach Rd, it proably would take 30-35 minutes to Waldorf.

But La Plata High School is ####. LPHS and Westlake are the worst schools in the county, and Westlake ranks higher than La Plata.

I stated that earlier. :smack:

Still, it should not take 45 minutes to get to Waldorf. Going Rt. 5 or the back roads.
