For years, whenever I was stationed in the south, I'd be driving through some little town, at the most - 12 houses, a general store, maybe a post office, and I heard in my mind:

"Axlerod, Georgia - population 148!

Roy Clark....Did he live in Maryland at one time? I've always heard that he did.

He got his start in the clubs in DC during the 50s, I believe, along with Jimmy Dean and a few other country stars. Had an uncle who was close with alot of them.
