Remember "Evanescence"?

What a voice! She is one of my faves....

Apparently, this song is "dedicated" to the man she eventually married (a therapist, no less!).

She has a wonderful voice. And she's super nice too -- I met her once probably 13-14 years ago at this point.

I went to the FUSE cable network studio in New York to be on a panel interview. We were asked to arrive around 5 or so in the evening. When we did, an escort lead us to the green room. When they opened the door, it was a mess, clearly in use. Our escort said, "Oh yea, Amy Lee has been here all day .. I thought they'd be cleared out by now." I think she was there by herself and not Evanescence. She had us hang back a minute and went to check with someone. She returned to tell is that it's OK for us to use the room, and even said we could avail ourselves of the food and drink.

After some time passed, Amy came back and was super friendly. We chatted for a bit. I generally don't like to meet famous people I admire as there's a risk they could be less than friendly and sully my opinion of their work.

Anyway, I love female vocalists. And surely if you know of Amy you also are familiar with Lorena McKennitt -- she's one of my all-time faves:

GREAT story. Would have loved to have met her. Especially since she seems nice.

On the other end of the spectrum (to reinforce your "fears"), when I was serving overseas in a former republic of the USSR The Black-Eyed Peas arrived at the airport we were waiting for a US Mil Flight to arrive. There were 5 of us (in uniform) and when we asked if we could say "hi" (maybe get an autograph) we were told "Absolutely not!" Granted they were arriving after a long flight and they certainly were jet-lagged, but we were literally the other folks in the terminal.

They walked right by us totally consumed with their own celebrity. Fergie seemed especially imperial (though that shouldn't be a surprise). What was a surprise was how old she looked (and this was back when she was still in her 20s!) and how tiny she is (5'0", maybe?).

But what a bunch of jerks. Had been a fan up until that moment....

As to Lorena McKennitt. Yes. Fantastic. Every bit as good as Enya (yes, I'm a fan of hers, Maire her sister, and Clannad) but far less known. Thanks for the video!

Well, since this is as much a "fave female vocalist" thread now, you might be interested in Amanda Sommerville. She's primarily a vocal coach, but has plenty of good stuff under her belt -- much of it a bit heavier, but the juxtaposition between the heavy and airy/beautiful singing works for me.
