Remote car starter installers in St. Mary's?

So some time ago I purchased a Viper Responder LE model 5301 remote car starter for an '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee. No security, just remote start. I also purchased an XK531 bypass module for it.

But I've run out of time to install it myself...and it's getting cold. It would be a great Christmas present for my wife. Does anyone know of a reputable installer in the area to install this for me? I tried pinging DG Kustom in Leonardtown, but they never got back to me.

If anyone's added a remote starter to their '99-04 Jeep and a good job was done, I'd like to know who did it!

Thanks,

Don't forget to tell her it's illegal to use in Maryland

It is? Remote start is factory on a ton of vehicles....? New law?

Trick Trucks on Great Mills has sold and installed a lot of them in the past - I knew the fella that did all the installs. He's not there any more though..301-862-1139 is their #.

Remote car starters are NOT illegal in the State of Maryland. Leaving your vehicle unattended while the keys are in the ignition is, so don't go out side and start your car so it can warm up while you wait in your house, that is illegal. Just contacted the MVA via phone, because I've been thinking of getting one and was told this information.

Leaving your vehicle unattended while the keys are in the ignition.

2010 Maryland Code
TRANSPORTATION
TITLE 21 - VEHICLE LAWS - RULES OF THE ROAD
Subtitle 11 - Miscellaneous Rules
Section 21-1101 - Unattended motor vehicle.
(a) Duty of driver upon leaving unattended vehicle.- Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, a person driving or otherwise in charge of a motor vehicle may not leave it unattended until the engine is stopped, the ignition locked, the key removed, and the brake effectively set.

Remote starting is illegal

Remote starts use a single to START the CAR. There is NO key left in the ignition. Also just called the State police barrack in Leonardtown and was told they are not illegal as for the reason stated above. But it's very odd since it states Engine is stopped. Go figure.:eyebrow:

Thanks for the info; I'll give them a call.

Not too concerned if it's illegal or not actually. But thanks for the info, I had no idea. In most cases, it'll get used before heading out to work in the morning from our own driveway.

The bypass module will be used so you don't need a key in the ignition, and I'm pretty sure there is a parking brake sensor so that it won't work unless the parking brake is engaged.

I am not saying it is legal or not but if it is not,
This would also be news to CCSO Sheriff Rex Coffey quoted 11-6-2010

" Maryland law states: a person driving or otherwise in charge of a motor vehicle may not leave it unattended until the engine is stopped, the ignition locked, the key removed, and the brake effectively set. Violators could face a $70 fine and one point. The use of a remote auto starter, as long as a key is not left in the ignition, is permitted. "

Just a little civil disobedience. In other words, F their stupid laws.

Oh, and I have seen cops cars running while unattended also. Oops forgot, they are immune. Think they might have anything in there worth taking?
