Removing item from right-click menu

I had some ad-ware install itself on my computer. :cussing: I've removed it, but on my right-click menu I still see an entry called "Web Rebates."

Any idea on how to get rid of it? It doesn't do anything if you select it, but I'd rather not see it at all.

TIA!

I did run Spybot and it removed all the ad-ware. It's just the right-click menu item I need to get rid of and I don't know where to go to do that.

Look up the name of the spyware on google. Look for a message board (tech related) type listing. They almost always have a walk through of how to completely remove those items. Not all can be removed (completely) by the products. Some have entries in nasty places.

You have to know what spyware/adware program called it.

oops! That qualifies as hiding stuff in the nasty places... here.

make sure whether you have version like above or the verison b (webrebates.b) and use the right fix.

Do everything it tells ya. I doubt its really gone. Also, remember, on some programs if you have system restore operational, you need to turn it off to remove the entire malware.

I did a search and found where you can remove the right-click items by going into Regedit under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers and removing the program keys. I'm going to give that a shot.

How long should it take to run a defrag? I started it at 530am and it was still clicking away at 4pm this afternoon. 0% complete. Ran spybot and found a gator and removed it and restarted.

Thanks. I'm printing it out so I can make sure all that crap is gone.

ARRRRRR!!!!Aye

(you probably have viruses to check for, too. You better check your whole system, and then try again. A lot of malware, joke programs, trojans, etc... will cause problems with scans, etc.

If your scan won't work, go to www.trend-micro.com and run there scan from the website. That will work where a virus or other item has intruded on your system preventing it from doing what needs to be done.)

It's my work computer, so it's SUPPOSEDLY protected from all that crap. :duh: I tried to get (*insert 4 letter acronym here*) to remove it, but THAT was useless, so I've taken matters into my own hands.
