Has anyone done this? My mom said she used a wet sponge and dabbed at hers, and it just came right off. I would really love to take this shiat off the ceilings...but I want to be prepared...I don't know how big of a job it will be. Any tips and advice would be appreciated! TIA.

I would think dabbing with a wet sponge would be very time consuming..

A drywall finishing blade (12 - 18" wide) I would think would knock it down pretty quickly.. Just running it along the ceiling should knock most of it off.

Thanks...I'll give it a try. I was hoping to avoid the dustiness of scraping it off, but if it'll save alot of time it might be worth it.

Get a ShopVac, and suck up dust as you scrape it off. That should remove 99% of the dust. Have fun! :howdy:

:yeahthat: And make sure it's a shopvac with a good filter in it or the dust will come back out the exhaust. Take it from someone who's had personal experience with this. :lmao: Went to HomeDepot and bought a "Rigid" vac with a good filter system in it. Works great for all kinds of stuff.

Good idea.. the beer will cut the dust you may inhale..better get one of those face maskes too.
Better yet, get a 6 pack and invite a few friends to help out!

I can't tell you how many times I've read this thread title and to me, it looks like "removing popcorn from ceiling." At first I was wondering, how the hell did she manage to get popcorn stuck to her ceiling??

It's Monday....what do you expect? :lmao:

I thought the same thing, and even thought "why isn't this in the Parenting section" because only kids would find a way to get popcorn stuck to the ceiling.

Why? I shouldn't use the regular vacumn for the carpet when I'm done? It's a canister, not a bag type.
The dust is too fine for a normal vacuum and the drywall dust will get into the motor and kill it.. (speaking from first hand knowledge). Canister vacuum it will probably not only get into the motor, but go right through the vacuum and you'll just end up blowig the dust all through the house..

Figure after you knock off most of the "popcorn" you can use a drywall sander to sand down the ridges and smooth it to the point you like. At that point you can get a drywall hand sander at Lowes, that hooks directly to a shop vac.. It won't take much in the way of elbow grease to sand it down to be as smooth as you like.

I'll do whatever it takes at this point. The ceiling is dirty, and I can't stand it anymore. I wouldn't even know where to begin to clean it...so I figured it'd be so much easier to get rid of it all. I am so excited. I can't stand the stuff anyways.

Watching DIY yesterday these guys put plastic down on the floor real heavy duty mil. and then used a garden hose with the fine mist spray set on it spraying small spots of the ceiling and using a 14" blade to scrape the popcorn right off. came off easy as can be and not nearly as much dust to worry about.
