:jameo: omg omg omg who do I believe....??

May 2021

An official from NARA contacts Trump's team after realizing that several important documents weren't handed over before Trump left the White House.

Fall 2021

NARA grows frustrated with the slow pace of document turnover after several months of conversations with the Trump team. Stern reaches out to another Trump attorney to intervene.

January 2022

After months of discussions with Trump's team, NARA retrieves 15 boxes of Trump White House records from Mar-a-Lago. NARA says in a statement that some of the records it received at the end of Trump's administration were "torn up by former President Trump,"

February 18, 2022

NARA informs the Justice Department that some of the documents retrieved from Mar-a-Lago included classified material. NARA also tells the department that, despite being warned it was illegal, Trump tore up documents while he was president, and that senior officials in the Trump administration did not properly preserve their social media messages, draft tweets and deleted tweets.

June 3, 2022

Four investigators, including a top Justice Department counterintelligence official, visit Mar-a-Lago seeking more information about classified material that had been taken to Florida

June 8, 2022

Trump's attorneys receive a letter from federal investigators, asking them to further secure the room where documents are being stored. In response, Trump aides add a padlock to the room in the basement of Mar-a-Lago.

August 8, 2022

The FBI executes a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago -- a major escalation of the classified documents investigation. The search focused on the area of the club where Trump's offices and personal quarters are located. Federal agents remove boxes of material from the property.

 Doesn't change the fact that as a sitting prez he can declassify documents.

And to date, there is NO PROOF that what he had after his presidency was classified.

Yep, that's exactly what I said.

But since you brought it up, a sitting president is the only one who can declare a classified document declassified.

Now you're only 1/4 as smart as a moron. Keep going Mary !
No, there are multiple layers of classification authority. Do you believe the president sits there and signs off every one of the hundreds of FOIA declassifications that are done weekly?

Except the NARA report and the report of torn up documents which violates the presidential records act.

as does flushing documents and not preserving records which is what kicked the whole thing off

Trump could settle much speculation and theory crafting if he would release the search warrant. It would contain detailed descriptions since according to the 4th A:

.....no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

By now, he has a complete inventory of what was seized.

He will never do that since it would be obvious he's lying for no other reason than to grift the mouth breathers that support him.

Please just pick one screen name per thread. The MPD in one thread has you contradicting yourself with every other post.

The latest in the Twitterverse rumor mill is - the FBI was looking for classified/declassified documents regarding their spying efforts on Trump.

They were saving their asses.

You know, in the days of J. Edgar, everyone KNOWS they were doing all sorts of politically motivated stunts. I naively thought that MOST of that was behind them. I swear it looks more and more as though politics is their raison d'etre.

It never changed.
Reminds me of that exchange in "Sneakers" where Redford says to Busfeld "Oh, you're the guys I hear breathing on my phone" No, that's the FBI. Oh you just overthrow foreign governments. No, that's the CIA. We're the NSA. WE'RE the good guys.

That's a forgotten classic.

Normally NOT a fan of Redford - but I do like pretty much every other member of the cast. One of River Phoenix's last movies.

I was just now reading a paragraph about it - and referred to the decrypter as a MacGuffin. And - yep. That's what it is - without it, there's no story, but only marginally shown what it is or it can do.

Kind of like "The Maltese Falcon" - you know, the story that Bogart guy plays in.
