Reporter gets beat!

Journalist John Mattes of TV station XETV in La Jolla, was treated at a hospital after being violently attacked on the job.

The suspects in the case are a husband and wife at the center of one of Mattes' reports on consumer fraud and deception.

...and idiot award for not defending himself? He was in a hostile situation, the woman on the edge, tension high, adrenaline flooding everyones system, then, here comes the husband, aggressively marching up to him and he, the reporter does what? Waits to be hit.

I'm not sure if the husband had a weapon or not but the reporter was awful bloody for what looks like a rather wild strike across his face. What if he had a weapon, a knife? A pen? He could have stabbed him in the eye, the throat, etc.

Maybe it's brave to sit there and take it knowing that it's being taped and you wanna look good as the diligent reporter attacked by maniacs but brave and stupid aren't that far apart.

All I'm saying is that it is not a good idea to sit there, seeing it coming and...take it.

I applaud what that reporter is doing but damn, he ought to know that people are going to get angry. I don't understand why more people don't try to learn at least a MINIMUM to defend themselves. He's lucky that other guy was present.

The reporter was on the Today show this morning. He looked pretty bad still. He said that when he was on the ground the guy was biting, scratching and trying to pull his face apart. He said he had his fingers in his eyes trying to gouge them out. All the while telling his wife to get a gun. Fortunately for him all she could find was a paper weight.
