I'm dying! :roflmao:

Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents are far more likely than Republicans and Republican leaners to support moving to a popular vote system for presidential elections (82% vs. 47%).

WTF, Republicans?? It's literally in your party's name!

:lmao:

Who Won The Civil War? Tough Question

The old joke used to be: Who is buried in Grant's tomb?

Now it's not so funny anymore.

Recently PoliTech, a group of politically engaged students on the campus of Texas Tech University, posted a video titled "Politically Challenged — Texas Tech Edition" in which they quiz contemporary students about history and politics.

On-screen reporter Courtney Plunk tosses the simplest of questions at random passersby "to see just how much our fellow students know about their country."

Question: Who won the Civil War? Answers: "The South?" and "The Confederates?"

Question: Who is our vice president? Answers: "I have no idea" and "Is that a trick question?"

Question: Who did we gain our independence from? Answer: "I couldn't tell you."

Most of those people who voted for the popular vote do not even know what the electoral college is.

But as long as the process we use to elect anyone is as corrupt as our National vote is today, what real difference does it make.?
The democrats have so ruined the voting process that it is a waste of time to even go.

What really NEEDS to be done is vote at the polls on election day .

We need as many people as possible to vote. That way it is a true voice of the people. Make election day a national holiday, or on a weekend.

But we know why that won't happen...... “I don’t want everybody to vote,” Paul Weyrich, an influential conservative activist, said in 1980. “As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.”

Actually I would say we need people that WANT to vote to vote. Those that do not care to vote should have that option. What we do not need is for ballots to be thrust upon everyone and having persons encouraging them or collecting the ballots for them. Nor should we need months of early voting or allow for ballots to count that are received after election day.

Can you imagine an election where a huge portion of the voters is just picking at random - because they have no idea who to vote for?

Keyword DAY with ID. We could even make it week but NO mail in except military overseas. Stateside they vote in the state they are stationed for Fed positions.

Vote harvesting needs to go away, mail in has to go away. Overseas military vote 1 day only under supervision and tabulated like every polling station. Vote on election day with ID only, people that want to vote WILL, the folks that eff up elections won't stand in line to vote. 2020 was a farce, no way in hell Biden won. The way things are today they are so rife with fraudulence that there is no way they are legit.

Well...yeah. People who are engaged and informed don't need to be coerced into voting - they look forward to it. It's the ignorant and illiterate who won't vote unless someone pressures them and tells them who to vote for, and then dumbs it down so there's no effort involved. And those people almost exclusively vote for Democrats.

So...um...that's not the burn you thought it was.

We have had those for years, its name recognition. I have to admit for many of things like BOE I have no clue who any of those people are and I just pick one whose name I like, eliminate one by some arbitrary criteria such as they have too many Y's in their name.

I leave those blank. I have no business casting a vote with no clue who they are or what they think.

I did once vote for a guy because on a cold weekend in one of our parks, I met a guy who was spending the whole morning picking up trash. By himself. I learned later he was a big environment guy who had some ideas about the environment. I thought at least he has the cojones to be out here in January by himself.

Last time I worked the elections, man ask me "What party was OBama? Because that's the only ones I'm voting for."

Yeah, I wanted to yank that ballot from him and show him the door.

Conversely I think if they want that position its their job to get themselves out there. I'm not too sure that rolling dice and picking a candidate would be any worse.

I sometimes wonder what effect it would have on politics if the value of campaign donations were nullified.

If say, every candidate for statewide or national office were granted a very limited amount of funds - and no more was allowed under any circumstances? Subject to permanent ejection from elective office?

I've just seen so many TV shows and movies where some expensive soiree is going on, and we're told it's a political fundraiser, invitation only and entry is some huge amount so people can mingle with other rich snobs -----

Who are in the business of doing EXACTLY WHAT WE ALL KNOW THEY DO - buying influence. Basically - bribing people. And we are so USED TO IT, it barely registers with us.

That eliminates TV campaign ads. (I sure don't miss the ads for the Virginia campaigns.)
