And my vote for Tarantino goes to "Kill Bill" 1&2:

Michael Parks: "Son number 1. This tall drink of "corksocker" ain't dead."

A McGuffin is in the breifcase.

I think Hitchcock put it there.

You mean in Pulp Fiction? You'll never know what is in the briefcase, that is part of how Tarentino works and grabs ya. He makes it glow with gold when it is opened to make you wonder, to get you more involved with what's happening. If you look closely at these films you'll see that he wants you to use your imagination as to what it is or what might happen next, hence the ending of Reservoir Dogs in not knowing if Mr. Pink get's caught, if Mr. White gets shot, and If Mr. Orange makes it out alive.

Actually, it is not a Tarentino trick. It originates with Hitchcock. See my above post back to Toxic. You should really take a film history course, Buddy. You would enjoy it. :yay:

Thanks Slick, I didn't know that. I've taken a course on film but not film history. I really enjoyed the film class and you're right in the assumption that I would enjoy a film history class.

If you have seen a lot of Hitchcock, look up Hitchcock McGuffin on the web. It was his term for it. I am sure you have seen the original Psycho by now. The big McGuffin there is the money. If you watch Psycho, it starts off about a stolen $40,000. The $40,000 has nothing to do with the movie, really. It is just an inconsequential item to carry the story forward into the hotel. It is the McGuffin... it is the central, unimportant item that allows the story happen.

If you have seen North by Northwest, it is nothing more than a chase movie driven by a McGuffin (just like the briefcase in Reservoir Dogs). Another item of unimportance that the story revolves around. The story is really nothing more than a chase. In fact, Hitchcock decided to make North by Northwest after just deciding that he wanted to see a gun chase across Mount Rushmore. Throw in a McGuffin, some people who want it, and some people who want to stay away from the people who want "it" and you have a story.
