restaurant bans young children

Yikes!! :faint:

I think, as people get more self-centered and oblivious, we'll see more restaurants having to do this. Some restaurants just aren't appropriate for kids, so you have to wonder why Mommy and Dad take them there in the first place.

Back in the day you'd see people bring their young kids into the bar at CIP, then sit and ##### about all the smoke and foul language. Hello, stupid? Get your kid out of the bar.

This still happens. I was at Hooters with a few friends and we were drinking and what not at the bar. Some lady walks up to us and says, "Excuse me, this is a family establishment and your language is not acceptable in front of my children" (she had a five year-old with her:faint:).

I replied, "Yes, you're right, the language is coarse and we'll tone it down but, THIS IS NOT A FAMILY ESTABLISHMENT!" :killingme

Sorry, but when me and my friends go to a bar, or the bar section of a restaurant, we shouldn't have to worry about our language because some idiots bring their small children to a place they shouldn't be.

This is why if I have to go to Walmart, I wait until after 10pm. Sadly, it doesn't eliminate the raving heathen children, but it does reduce their numbers considerably.

Now what REALLY irks me about restaurants is when I'm there, my child starts to act up and I'm trying to get out because I don't want to be that mom. Your child starts fussing and you become a pariah. I'm TRYING to do the right thing and get out, but it's difficult when your server mysteriously vanishes and you can't get the check :tantrum

But yeah, back to the main topic. Restaurants should totally be allowed to ban children. You don't like it? Don't give them your business! If it's a bad business idea the businesses that practice it will either go under or repeal it.

The Walmart up in Mt. Airy sucks, I quit going :boo:

Lines were long so I stood back to not block the walkway in the express lane. Lady with 50 items in her cart comes and cuts me off and yells about how she's "in a hurry".

If you're in such a hurry, you should have thought about that before you spent $400. :faint:

I was amazed at how many people would drag their kids to the grocery store at 6am... Someone's screeching child is the last thing I want to hear when I wake up. The child is obviously tired.

It's just a shame that people who make their children behave (or are smart enough to remove a crying baby) are now no longer able to enjoy dinner there  we have gotten to a place where we feel it is NORMAL for children to be raving heathens. And it isn't. Now, people who breed brats and have no intention of reigning them in or making them behave have suceeded in making the world unfriendly towards young families.:coffee:

Some places, though, I don't know why people bring kids:geek:

Actaully, Hoosters has recently been presenting themselves as a family resteraunt. They even have a kid's menu now. You are right though. That lady had no business walking up to you (in the bar area) and complaining. I've seen the same thing happen at places like Applebees and Ruby Tuesday.

There are tons of family friendly establishments. Some have bars, sure, but they're on the other side of the place. Ledo's Pizza, that cheeseburger joint on 235 a couple blocks from the base, Red Robin... like you said, even Hooters has a family section. All the places I frequent have the bar almost in a completely different building.

Yeah, right up there with Bob Evans and Cracker Barrel.

I don't know as I'd call a place where scantily clad young women serve alcohol into the wee hours a "family restaurant". I suppose it depends on what kind of family you have.

Problem is parents go out with their kids and they want to drink while they're out so they drag them to Hooters.

Even then, there are plenty of places that serve beer and wine that are family friendly. Olive Garden, Red Robin, hell even J&P Pizza and some Pizza Hut locations. Not like Hooters is THE only place to eat in town.

Well, during the regular dinner times, Hooters isn't much different than any other theme resteraunt except for what the servers wear. Even that isn't a whole lot different than what can be seen out in public during the day or in a high school.

Yabbut I see people wear all sorts of things out in public that I don't necessarily want to see on the person serving my food.

I would soooooo go that restaurant.

Me too. I so very rarely take all 3 of my kids out to eat. I just cannot enjoy a meal out with all of them and I get embarrassed when they act up. I discipline my kids but I know how they show their butts in public. So I respect other patrons enough to leave their butts with a sitter should I feel the need to go out to eat.

Well that would be up to the establishment and how they felt about language. Even bars can have rules about that. Once in the Leonardtown pub some guys I was there with got asked to stop cursing by a waitress. I don't know if someone complained or that is there policy.

Libertarian.
If a child can't behave in a restaurant then the parent should not bring them in. I don't think young children should be banned, but when there is a problem with one I think it should be addressed by the staff of the restaurant and if the young child won't behave then they should be asked to leave.

I am blessed with selective hearing so they rarely register with me until someone points it out. Occasionally a real shrieker will pierce through the fog, though. What I don't like is when parents let their squabs wander about, visiting other tables, or hanging over the booth. You have to wonder what those morons are thinking.

next time, snatch one up and head out the door. "I saw it running loose, I thought it was there for the taking."

I've only been to one place that's had a problem with language.

If you walk in to a bar, at 11:30pm, that's what you're going to get. Stupid lady should've taken her kid to McDonald's.

But parents are lazy ####s... instead of realizing there are sacrifices they have to make as a parent, they think they can continue to party it up like they're 21 again and just bring their kids with them.

When you have a four year old child with you and you're in, I don't know, Towson... Hooter's is probably not the best place to bring your kid at 11:30 at night. Like I said, I had no problem toning down the language, I do have a problem with someone bringing their kid in to a bar late at night and expecting everyone else to quiet down so they can sit down and have a family meal (in the bar).

This is just common sense stuff.

Agreed. This reminds me of the time I was in NYC at Jeckyll & Hyde with a few friends. It was 11pm and one of my friends was pretty loud, F-bombed a few times. The manager came over and told him to quiet down, it was a family establishment. I asked him if he was serious because that place would scare the crap out of most kids with the evil decor. I've never seen a kid in there.

Yeah, I can't say I'll be bringing my 2 year old there anytime soon. Or ever, for that matter. But nothing surprises me with parents nowadays.

Me too. I so very rarely take all 3 of my kids out to eat. I just cannot enjoy a meal out with all of them and I get embarrassed when they act up. I hear ya. My son is at the dreaded Terrible Two's age now. 90% of the time he's a little angel. We get compliments all the time about how well behaved he is out in public. But that other 10% of the time......let's just say that we recently found/used a babysitter for the first time ever. And if they open a "kid-free" restaurant around here, that's where hubby & I will go for date nights. :yahoo:

Even if they are in the wrong, this is where polite gets you... goes like this:

"Excuse me, I have young children with me and I'd appreciate it if y'all watch the language"

Me: "Okay, I understand... our language is coarse but we'll be mindful of the language"

"Thank you"

Me: "You're welcome... just for future reference ma'am, this place is usually rowdy at night (or when the game's on)... I don't know if you're from out of town, but the Pizza Hut down the road serves alcohol, is open late and is probably a better venue for a family dinner this late at night"

"Thanks for the advice, have a good evening"
