Who's up for a lunch ride over to Colonial Beach. Just lunch, no cultural crap.
Leave the Charlotte Hall WaWa at 11:30, cross the bridge into VA and (depending on the group size) hit either the High Tides on the Potomac or the River Boat on the Potomac

15 or more and we'll hit the Riverboat

I'm leading this ride for the Southern Cruisers and I'm inviting the SOMD.com riders to join us for a short afternoon ride. You will be expected to comply with our group riding guidelines for everyone's safety.

I think she means stuff like this. Fine if you're used to it, but if you're not, it could suck all the fun out of a ride just worrying about if you are doing everything right.

RIDING FORMATION AND INDIVIDUAL POSITIONS:

A) The standard formation, under good conditions of road, traffic, and weather, will be a double row, staggered, in one traffic lane. The interval will be no less than one second between staggered riders, which will automatically make a 2 second interval between you and the bike directly in front of you.

B). The SCRC Road Captain will be at the head of the group, and typically will ride just to the left of lane center. The Tail Gunner will ride at the rear of the formation.

C). New members, guests, and any riders with little experience in group riding will be positioned at the front of the group, just behind the Road Captain.

D). Each rider should maintain his or her starting line up position in the group until arrival at the destination. This allows each rider to become more familiar with the riding style and habits of those nearest him or her in the group, and is particularly important for the new or inexperienced riders.

E). Under certain conditions the Road Captain will signal the group to form a single file formation. The signal is the left arm held overhead with one finger extended. Drop back to a safe following distance from the rider in front of you and move into a single file.

 isn't that how we rode a couple of weeks ago?
It's pretty much common sense. Keep a 2 second space from the guy in front of you (always a good idea), the ride leader decides when to switch from the stagered formation to single file. That's usually based on if there is a shoulder or run-off space.
Newbies up toward the front of the group and an experienced rider at the rear.

Which finger does the leader hold up with signaling to change formation?

I don't think they would have approved the cross walk action, or the way you got real small, real quick heading back up 235.:lmao:

 Leading group rides with the SCRC means I HAVE to stay reasonably close to the speed limit.

when the ride is over, I no longer have the responsibility of keeping those other folks safe and ticket free

Wish I could make it ~ but I think my first group ride will have to be something a bit less formal.

Have a nice, safe ride today! :yahoo:

Rules seem to read more difficult than they actually are. Looks fairly common sensish. Makes me wish I was riding again. Never did do any large group rides when I rode. I was too busy going to darn fast and acting the fool!:lmao:

Ride safe.

How about to Leonardtown at 5 today? Just BS Gal and I so far.

Hi! :howdy: Just got back from a 10 day vacation...wish I'd jumped on the forums before now, I'd have found a way to join you!

Can we make plans to meet up another day? I'm still just on a permit, so should have someone pick me up near home. I'm free any evening this week.

I told you about my ride in Texas...Having some guidance up front makes it a whole lot safer and safer is way more fun in the long run. It's really not that big of a deal; just paying attention and doing what the bike in front of you is doing:coffee:
