RIP George Michaels

In My Opinion
My dad was a radio announcer (in his younger days), George Michael started out in radio. Also, my dad did a lot of announcing of sports games when we lived overseas. There's a way to do play by play sports announcing and not everyone can do it - or do it well. It probably stems from that.
I have always been impressed by a good play by play sportscaster.
How they can know everyones numbers and names and stats etc... and come up with it in a split second is beyond me.

I cant even tell you who is playing who on any given day.

Warner Wolf WAS sportscasting when I was a kid and George was a blow hard interloper when he took over Warner's exalted position as THE sports guy in our region. Over the years, Micheals hard work and his gig, his style, grew on me and I give him all due credit for having earned the top position around here and holding it for a LONG time.

Good job, George! RIP

I remember Warner Wolf!!

I think most radio/sports announcer type guys of that era were a little on the "blow hard" side. A bit full of themselves, if you will. Not all, but a lot. To be honest, my dad probably fit that description, as well.

:yay: I felt so very bad for Lindsey tonight. You could tell in her face that she'd had a very tough day & could see how much respect she had for him as a mentor, colleague & friend.

She held up very well, though. I give her a lot of credit. I don't think I could have held up that well, and I know I'm probably twice her age.

Lindsay's my favorite sportscaster. I actually met her earlier this year when I went to The White House. She works hard and she loves sports in general. I remember when she was covering the ARCA races on SPEED before she went to NBC4. I've always liked her.

I have his book, VERY entertaining reading. :yay:

I heard when he left Channel 4 - it was because he wouldn't pick which of his staff to cut. They weren't cutting him - he chose to leave rather than cut his own staff.

I'm not sure if that's true or a rumor.

I have heard the same thing I think its true and not a rumor. He was always my favorite sports guy, and I will always remember him and thank him for bringing Lindsay to town.
She looked pretty upset yesterday but really held up good telling her story about George and how she turned him down the first time for the job and was so thankful that when she called back in 2 months that he offered her the job again.

RIP George
