Frankly, most of the made to order food at Sheetz and WaWa is OK given the price and I'd opt for that if I was out on the road and had no way to make it myself. At least you can buy a couple of pieces of fruit and passable coffee.

And you can see where they make the food.

I eat out a lot, because I'm single and don't always feel like cooking. But I've learned to lower my expectations. Good example was a few days ago. I wanted ribs, went to a local steak house. I've gotten ribs here before, hit or miss, touted as one of their signature servings. Last trip, I had to send them back. Awful. Dry, chewy. Keeping that in mind, I tried the ribs again. Even worse. Like leather. More like they had been microwaved to death in eat to them. Server called the manager, explained my disappointment, told her it wasn't the first time. Being a "signature" dish, it reflects really poorly on them. She thanked me for telling her, apologized more than a few times and comped my entire evening's meal.

You're right. No longer enjoyable when you have to deal with this, and mediocre food is the norm around here. There are exceptions, like Jerry's Place in PF. Expensive, but always top notch service and food.

Boomerangs in Solomons. Clean, clean bathrooms, friendly staff, owners usually serve you during the day (cannot speak for weekends) and I love their original ribs. Not cheap but I don't mind paying for good food.

The place always looked clean, but I didn't think the food was all the great. It always tasted like re-heated left overs to me.

I had the opportunity to take the Basic Food Safety Course yesterday at the Health Dept. We were told that the county has a "Gold Star" program that recognizes restaurants and other food service facilities that meet the following requirements.

• No critical violations
• No temperature violations cited during a monitoring inspection
• All violations noted by an inspector must be corrected by a 30-day follow-up inspection
• No confirmed unsafe food handling complaints
• At least one food service worker completed a recognized and approved “Food Service Sanitarian and Safety Class” within the last two years

Restaurants are asked to post the award at a prominent location where it can be seen by the public. We were told that this year there are over 90 recipients of the award. The winners will be announced at a ceremony this coming week.

Here's is a video of last year's winners if you are interested.

We took some folks from TX there recently and we all loved their food. I have never thought of them as being re-heated leftovers. 🤷
