Road trips and billboards

While doing a road trip have you ever took a quick detour due to a catchy billboard? I consider them some sort of visual litter. But if you are hankering for an ice cream or BBQ shack then they can some times help you decide your next stop.

It would be nice if business owners would remove billboards once they decide to close their business. Nothing like getting off looking for the place only to find waist high weeds growing in the parking lot.

I never really think about billboards, but now that you bring it up, it seems they should be obsolete, or soon. With GPS and search info on the internet, billboards are now unnecessary. That would get rid of a lot of blight on the roadways. However, there will always be billboards for elections, and the, occasional, shock value billboard, I am sure.

BTW, I like your 'question' threads. They are noncombatant, and make one think of everyday things that we don't have time to think about. Keep 'em coming! Brain food is a good thing!

On the way to Myrtle Beach, going thru NC, saw a billboard for a BBQ place, we made a detour off of 95 and went to it. Delicious. Always enjoyed the "Pedro Says" billboards on the way to S.O.B when I was a kid. When we took the granddaughters to Myrtle Beach a few years ago, they liked them too and kept them kind of occupied looking for the next one.
