Lee is finally taking me on the field trip of my dreams tomorrow...Glory Days in Newburg MD. I dream small. Anyhoo, we're going to Glory Days after breakfast and planning on hitting up a restaurant on the way home that is not a chain. I've narrowed it down to Galazio's, Marie's Diner, or Rucci's in that order.

I'm directionally challenged - I know where Glory Days is located and two of three restaurants are also on Crain Highway but I'm lost as to where driving wise they would be. Would La Plata be on the way back to St Mary's county and would White Plains also be in the general vicinity? I'm trying to make things easy on him and I know on the way home rather than further out would be something he would appreciate.

And Marie's Diner. Is that located near something I could use as a landmark?

If anyone has any other restaurant recommendations...that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Marie's Diner in LaPlata would be closest, although Galazio's is right past it. When you're finished,, You can take Rt. 301S and then back to Rt. 234 back to St. Mary's

I've never eaten at Marie's Diner, but it's quite popular and good, from what I've heard. Haven't been to Galazios, either, but know people personally who like that, too. I've been to Rucci's a couple of times and they are really good! But it's further away.

Galazio's is excellent! We had several business lunches/meetings there when I work in La Plata. You can also take Rt. 6 back to St. Marys. Less traffic than 301 and 5. Rucci's is also very good! Primestreet Grill wasnt always opened for lunch on the weekdays, that may have changed, Happy Hunting at Glory Days.

Thank you! I wonder if you really need reservations for lunch. I have no idea when we're leaving Glory Days and if Lee sees something that even vaguely resembles machinery - it could be an all- day event. Really looking forward to the "trip", leaves are turning quickly, weather's perfect, sunny all day, back roads to get there...

I ate at Marie's in July when I took my pup to the Vet. I had a couple of hours before I could pick him up. I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. Giant portions and great service. I had a seafood omelet and it was massive. Everything fresh and tasty. Great prices too.

Really beautiful day. Took the scenic route up and back and between the skies and the trees...it was just a glorious drive. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't any vintage Christmas. I always seem to get the timing wrong - same thing happened at Chesapeake Antiques last year. Oh well. In Glory Days, the minute you walk in, there's a huge dark oak bar with the brass railing at the bottom and behind it another counter/shelving combo with old mirrors above it and above that old stained glass. The lady behind the counter said it had been purchased from a barn here in St Mary's County and before that had been in a local bar. I immediately thought of you @Gillligan for some reason - probably because of Swann's Point - that piece would have been something you would have loved and salvaged. Anyhow - I have a vivid imagination. I could picture that old bar and you behind it, with some of locals back then, drinking, feet up on that brass foot rail bullshitting.

Lunch was a bit of a disappointment. Maries was so crowded that we couldn't even park - this at 1:30, so we drove over to the Greek place. We were seated immediately then 15 minutes plus passed and we hadn't even been given menus at the point, so we left. I said hey there's Chinese. Worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. Big portions, all horrible.

On the way back we passed restaurant after restaurant that wasn't a chain, got ice cream at Brusters - made up for it.

All things considered; it was a perfect fall trip for a perfect fall day. No politics talk thank the gods, great, great company, Lee's just an amazing wonderful thoughtful hilarious man.

Anyhoo, if you want to take a mental break from politics and you've never been to Glory Days, I highly recommend it, the trees won't disappoint (if you do it soon). It was a great day trip and a little piece of history both inside and outside to get lost in.

Galazio's, Marie's Diner, or Rucci's..they are alright nothing to brag about..Prime skreet grills has been invaded same as Marie's and the place back behind Lowes(Farm House?) past the light just sucks and way over priced /there is not any good place to eat in and around waldorf/Laplata that has not been invaded but thats what happens when your county Gov' lets all the semi free homes continue to be built in the area!

Glad you enjoyed the trip! I love Glory Days!

Too bad the restaurants did not work out. Not unusual for Marie's to be packed, but I've never had a bad experience at Galazios😒. I've never had Chinese in that area, so can't chime in on that one!

I did, I'm still smiling about it this morning. The restaurant experience would have been nice, but it wasn't a deal breaker by any means. The lady at Glory Days said she expects Christmas stuff to be added in the next week or two so I think I'm going to call and head back there by myself when it's in. It's like 40 miles from my home, that's not a bad drive.

I'm a Navy brat, but we always returned to Baltimore for Thanksgiving and Christmas. My grandparents lived in row homes and at Christmas every window in those row homes was decorated with something different. That's where I discovered train gardens, and bubble lights, and those little cardboard glitter houses from Japan, bottle brush trees. Whenever I get nostalgic, it's always for Christmas in Baltimore. I really hope to see that Glory Days.

We didn't want to go that far into Waldorf; the traffic in LaPlata was bad enough. But there were little barbecue joints on the way back we could have stopped at and we both said hey Roy Rogers, we should have gone there. Neither one of us are foodies, the menus online looked so good for Maries/Galazio's. Ruccis was a nonstarter, Lee said it's too far the opposite direction, which was fine, we have good Italian in this area. I should have made reservations, it WAS recommended, I just ignored it.
